A Tyranny of Beeps
« on: December 20, 2015, 02:05:51 am »
This is a cogent analysis, particularly the conclusion drawn about the beeping:
"There can only be one rational explanation: the machines have developed a collective intelligence and are slowly acclimating humans to take orders without questioning."
I would simply like to add that the conspiracy started outside the house, in our cars.
Why, it only made sense to obey the beeps telling us that our headlights were still on.
Ditto, for taking out the keys.
Seat belt not fastened? Better obey the beeps. (And BTW, if you haven't had that system fail and continue beeping regardless of all seat belts being fastened you are not missing out on anything.)
So when the beeps started inside we were preconditioned to obey.
