Dragon in Exile by Sharon Lee & Steve Miller.  Alliance of Equals (hardcover) in same series hits the shelves July 5.
We've had our toad for the 2020s, it's got to get better from here!
But do beware the toad burps.

I'm just starting 'The Rook', by Daniel O'Malley. It's his first, and was was a winner of the 2012 Aurealis Award for Best Science Fiction Novel. Above the title is the phrase "On Her Majesty's Supernatural Secret Service".
It's looking good. Published in '12 and there is a sequel out

THE ROOK is tons of fun. The sequel got mixed reviews, and as I haven't read it yet myself, I can't offer an informed opinion on that one.

No, but the yak herds have been rustled for a movie adaptation.  Soon, a poke shall be pinched!

I am about 2/3 of the way through STILETTO, sequel to THE ROOK, and it is just fine. Not sure what the reviewer's problem with it was.

Glad to hear that. Sometimes sequels fail, other times critics do. :D
