For the next several million years until we evolve, perhaps, which is depressing.

Got out The Harp of Immach Thyssel by Patricia C. Wrede, to follow the other Lyra book, Shadow Magic.
We've had our toad for the 2020s, it's got to get better from here!
But do beware the toad burps.

Following with 'The Raven Ring', perhaps?
And yes, there always seem to be variants from the human breed around who think it to be their right to own other humans.

I downloaded several pages from Wikipedia on railroad signaling systems. Fascinating stuff.

IMO ;)

I grabbed Caught in Crystal next, back to 11-1200 years after The Wars Of Binding, and where I tend to suspect the 'black crystals' used by Tammis, and the Lithmern priests came from.
Noting - since the names are from "Harp" that the history quoted is by "Flindan Kensar Starren" - any bets that it's by Emereck & Liana's son, since it's 30 years after Altethia's crowning?

It's been too long since I read them to recall. Perhaps I should plan the same re-read you're doing now, as I've long enjoyed the stories.

Just finished Faith Hunter's latest Jane Yellowrock, SHADOW RITES. A fairly solid entry in the series, with plenty of suspense and lol moments.

The book I read before this was Leon Panetta's memoir, WORTHY FIGHTS. There are about 535 politicians I want to hit over the head with this book, but it's not really heavy enough to make an impact unless you actually read it. As an aside, every time I type his name, autocorrect wants to make it Pancetta. Now I am hungry.

Finished "A walk to remember", for me that's a positive case of "the movie was way better".
It's astounding how long two-hundred pages can get ...

Ah, the "Blookhound" - that's a bookhound/bloodhound cross, right?
