Wood Sprites ~ Wen Spencer
We've had our toad for the 2020s, it's got to get better from here!
But do beware the toad burps.

Frankenstein (audio) Oddly, I have never read the book. Very different from the
various adaptations I have seen/heard.

I am about to start An Apprentice to Elves by Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear.
That is unless I follow my other impulse which is to read some kind of cheezy trope filled romance :)

I am finally reading listening to the unbridged Frankenstein ~Mary Shelley.

This is a very different book from the adaptations I have listened to/watched. A much
better book. :)

That happens often in my experience, the adaptations can vey rarely capture the book fully or even do it true justice in many cases.

"Grass" by Sheri S. Tepper.
Read it in Dutch translation years ago and liked it, but in English it was better :)

I've enjoyed Sheri S. Tepper in her many incarnations. :)

Trying to make my way through "Blood Rites" by Jim Butcher.
Maybe it's because he's stoned on pain med, but he has breakfast three times when he's checking in with the client & the Raith, twice with the client!
And that's besides the time he twice takes his duster off to threaten Bob with the hammer.

??? I don't remember that. And it's the kind of thing that I reread when I get to it.

Re-reading "The Garden of Eve" by K. L. Going.

After my last read, "Was bleibt, wenn ich verschwunden bin" -What's left when I'm gone- by Lilly Lindner, a young readers novel about Anorexia, I needed something light and comfy. What's left is an epistolary novel about two sisters, one aged nine, the other aged sixteen. It's told in the unanswered letters the younger one sends her sister in the clinic, and then in the second half gives the letters written by her older sister in answer but never sent.
Terrific writing, but a real downer.

Also I'm now on my last leg in "On Basilisk Station" - finally he gets things going!
They really should have cut down on the stuffing in that one.

I loved Wood Sprites. Especially happy to see the potential for more in that series.

Finished The Warded Man by Peter V. Brett. I picked it up on the recommendations of friends, who said it was about heroism. It is, and the story is good, but it's all very black and white. If you are uneasy with the level of cultural chauvinism in C.S. Lewis, you will be even more uncomfortable with this book. There is not a lot of nuance in the characters. I need to check whether this is his first book altogether, or just the first in the series. I give new authors something of a pass sometimes, because they do tend to improve in subsequent books. Not sure whether I will continue with this series.
