I just got the first one in the fantasy series by Jim Butcher, thought I might give that a try.

Adventures in Time and Space with Max Merriwell by Pat Murphy.

Mystery/fantasy/sf adventure set on a cruise ship.  ^-^
We've had our toad for the 2020s, it's got to get better from here!
But do beware the toad burps.

Oh, it gets better, the alter-egos of the title character (who writes different genres of fiction under assorted pen names) are showing up.

Paradox series by Rachel Bach.
Book one: Fortune's Pawn
Book two: Honour's Knight
Book three: Heaven's Queen

I found out about these books from Ilona Andrew's web site.  I have really enjoyed reading them - awesome heroine and great story. I'd highly recommend reading them.
