Errors, Corrections, & Mistakes
« on: May 21, 2010, 12:21:29 pm »
Okay I haven't seen anything about this but I thought I'd ask anyway as it confuses me just alittle.

In BC on pg 241(Hard Cover) a paragraph is written:

I snatched them and put them on. Then I hopped up and went to the bathroom, where the rest of my clothes were. I dressed, took a step toward the bathroom, and had a flash back.....

I thought she was already in the bathroom...if that's the case how is she then taking a step towards it if she's already there. I may just be being dense (husband says my head is as dense as wet sand sometimes lol) or is it a typo?

I just read it over, and it does indeed look like a typo.  Thanks for catching it!

On page 282 of "River Marked" Mercy muses "Their fatality had surprised me a little."
Um... Did you mean "their fatalism"?

Ah, there was a word choice I'd posted in "Ask Patty", about word choice... this is the right place for it, I think!  Trying to find it at this point, though...  eep!

Towards the end of the book, Anna thinks something about Charles having killed Justin.  Actually, Boyd, 3rd in the Chicago pack (now alpha) shot Justin when he was about to attack Charles.  (No page because I'm listening to the audio book, but the scene is when Anna is in the cage.)

Thank you, I'll take a look at FG and find the reference to check/add.

We should find both references; the A&O page for Boyd shooting J, & the FG page for the mis-speaking.

Here's a very minor (and extremely subtle) continuity one from Fair Game.

This is the U.S. hardcover edition, pages 61-62

The scene is where Charles and Anna are reviewing the pictures and case-history of the "Big Game Hunter" in their first meeting with the FBI, Cantrip, and Homeland Security.

1)  Goldstein shows pictures of 3 victims from 1984, one of whom (Melissa Snow) Charles recognizes

2)  Three paragraphs later, it begins:  "In the next year's group of victims, Charles recognized two of the three."  The implication is that this must be 1985, since 1984 had just been shown.

3)  Two paragraphs later, it begins:  "Charles knew three of the victims in 1985 and all of the bodies found in 1986."

Also a very small and minor thing, which can be partly explained away:

1)  Goldstein is described as being in his fifties

2)  The story itself appears to take place around 2012

3)  On Page 61, Goldstein says, "Here's where we came in, the FBI - it was before my time.  I first hit this case as a rookie in 2000."

4)  Given the timeline and his age, this implies Goldstein was a rookie around age 40.  It isn't unheard-of that a person might transfer from law enforcement or another agency at that point in their career.  Although "as a rookie" usually implies a little more than simply being new to the FBI and more like new to law enforcement generally.  I almost had the impression this scene might have originally had that line spoken by Leslie Fisher, but later changed so Goldstein was leading the show while retaining Fisher's spoken line.  In the Prologue, Fisher was age 8 in 1984 when the fae came out.  In 2000 she would be 24, the right age to be a rookie going into the FBI.
"I’ve never been a child. Or if I was, I don’t remember."

The showing/not showing the bodies in the pictures, and the runes that might have been cut into faces (as happened to Lizzie Beauclaire) confused me, too.

With regards to Number 4)

"Rookie" can also pertain to an Internal transfer from an Office Position to a Field Position, or from say Burglary/Robbery to Homicide.
