Hobbardy Dick
« on: February 09, 2009, 02:07:36 pm »
At the reading on Sunday I asked about your reference material for fairy. You mentioned Katharine Briggs. I found that in the US her book is published as Encyclopedia of Fairies and in Britain it is published as Dictionary of Fairies. The kind ladies at Barnes and Noble looked it up for me and a new US edition is going for $270! I found used British versions much, much cheaper (starting at $6.00). That said, while looking at Katharine's books, I noticed she wrote a story that featured a Hob - Hobbardy Dick. I wondered if you had read it and if it in any way inspired you to write Hob's Bargain  :D I plan on ordering a used copy (they go for around $5.00) and look forward to another style of "Hob" story.
Thanks for your time

No -- I haven't read it, though I'll have to go look.  What fun :)  My favorite "new" fairy teller is Nicholas Stuart Grey (UK), though his works can be hard to find.
