Title: If Mercy and Adam had a kid how would Jesse feel?
Post by: little gray wolf on August 20, 2010, 05:33:23 pm
I was just thinking, if Mercy and Adam had a kid together, how would Jesse feel. Would she be happy, sad ,mad, or just so-so? Please put what you think.

I think she'd be happy. She likes Mercy, she likes Mercy and Adam together. I can't see her being upset by them having a child.

That is a good point. But personally I'd be a little jelous(can't spell at all!) :-[

I think that she, knowing the realities of Adam being a werewolf, and thus young, studly, and fertile for centuries, might have a little jealousy, but since she's getting close to the age to go to college anyway, she's not apt to get too bent out of shape by it.

She may even be really happy for all I know. I think it would be a good thing for her(a little annoying, yes, but good) :D

Jesse's mother's reaction may have some influence upon Jesse. If only the type that says, "if it ticks off Mom, it must be good."

Jesse's mother has shown that she is not quite stable in her reactions to Adam. Jesse has said that her mother uses the miscarriages in arguments with Adam. (Don't remember from where to cite.) If Adam and Mercy have a child this will provoke a reaction. Jesse may become the focus of this reaction.

She might just feel releif that her father won't be going through empty-nest-syndrom.

Another completely believable possibility.  :)

Hmm, maybe I'm the only one but I can see her being extatic. She will have a sibling, Mercy and Adam will be happy, and she will be old enough that a new baby won't totally change her lifestyle. Actually she would be more like an aunt to the baby than an older sister.

No, I agree with you ArtAngel.  She seems to be a fairly stable kid; I don't see it bothering her.

I also agree and the only people who might get ruffled about this is Christy due to her miscarriages and bitterness and some of female weres in the pack.

Yep happy lovey dovey storybook endings always happen to Mercy (just a hint of sarcasm)But I think Jesse could handle almost anything

I think Jesse would be pleased and probably as worried as Adam would be of the possibility of miscarriage.  Jesse has been throwing Adam at Mercy for a long time *if indirectly*.  Christy's reaction would be interesting as would the pack females.

you do have a very good point. I never really thought about it as Jesse encouraging them. I also think that the pack females, after all of the betrayal in the pack, support thier alpha and his mate in whatever happens. O)

You know I’d imagine there would be some jealously, but only on the basis that Jesse is a child of divorced parents (it had to affect her, she was at least nine when it happened), whereas Mercy and Adam’s child(ren) would be born into a committed family.

Somehow I’d imagine that’s how Mercy felt when she was dumped back into the already completed family when she was sixteen. Only in Jesse’s case the situation would be less extreme. Because no matter what she’s always been part of the family unit.

She’s older yes, that’s got to help, she’ll be more rational about it, and in the end she’ll just want her Dad and Mercy to be happy whether they have children or not.

You know it’s funny; technically the age gap will be less between Jesse and Mercy than any siblings. So yes she’d be more of an aunt figure than a sister.

I also agree and the only people who might get ruffled (are) some of female weres in the pack.

I’ve never thought about how it would affect the ladies. Honey and Aurielle I could see being involved with any children. But I haven’t figured Mary-Jo out yet, she doesn’t seem the children type.

But you have to think that Mercy would probably understand and support Jesse, they are pretty close and Adam definitly wouldn't leave Jesse hanging.

I think that Jesse would be happy for Mercy and Adam and would love being Aunt Jesse seeing how mature she is. I think most of the jealousy would be from the pack females. the fact that Mercy is able to have children while they can't would be a sore spot with them.  :-\

But they support Adam and Mercy as a couple and the fact that they all love Jesse might mean they wouldn't be too jelous.

But the focus of the female werewolves and even the human mates wont be on Jesse it would be on Mercy. There is going to be some resentment at least, especially since Mercy is not a werewolf or fully human, if she was able to bear healthy children and even the possibility of a werewolf baby.  Mercy faced that in Aspen Creek and to some extent in Silver especially with Mary Jo.

Well if that happens lets hope that the pack has enough respect as to not go to violence as most wolves tend to

I very much doubt that will happen - Adam will go ballistic but there will be tensions and its human nature. You cant help wanting things especially if you cant have them.

My first thought was to consider the hysterics my little brother had when my parents were considering adopting a third child.  He was about fourteen (I'm two years older), normally mature and emotionally stable, and LOVES kids... my parents figured I'd be 'whatever, as long as you don't make me change dirty diapers all the time' about the idea, and my brother would be overjoyed.

He flipped out, and we remained a happy family of four.

Now, I don't think Jesse would freak out and throw a fit about the idea.  She seems like she would be all in favor of the idea, but with mixed emotions as others have listed above (slightly jealous, nervous about whether Mercy might have a difficult pregnancy or a miscarriage, happy about the new baby, pleased that Mercy and Adam are happy...)

But on the other hand, one never quite knows what insecurities a person is hiding.  I could see Jesse having a very real, deeply hidden fear that a new younger sibling would be a shapeshifter... and therefore fit in better with Mercy and Adam - and the supernatural world that they live in - than she herself does... and that she would get increasingly left out of their lives.

Add to that the fact that she will soon be leaving for college:  It's very difficult sometimes to be out of the loop.  Especially if the parents have someone new to be doting on.  For instance, I've always been the type to forget to call home for three weeks or so... but when my dad started making French toast breakfasts every Sunday for my brother and one of our cousins (she goes to the same college as my brother, much closer to home than I am), I felt really left out... never mind that I don't even like French toast.

Just something to consider.

Those are all very good points Kyria. I can see them being issues but not big enough to cause any serious division, just something that will cause some tears and conversations.

Well we all know it wouldn't be Mercy if there wasn't some kind of drama. O)

Nah, Jessie is totally secure in knowing that Adam loves her, and has always had Mercy's support too.  Also she's really level headed as well and has a good bit of personal integrity that she's learned from her Pop.  She'd be glad to have someone she can be a big sis to.  She might possibly have a few twinges of jealousy because she's only human, but they wouldn't last too long, and Mercy would spot the body language of that quick as she could and give her a hug of reassurance.. (hey, that's how I see it!)

Body language & scent... gotta love the synergy there!  I suspect she might be relieved that they have someone to draw their attention from her as she forges out on her own.

I agree.

Kyria, you are right though, you never know what would happen no matter how sure you are about her security.

Nah, Jessie is totally secure in knowing that Adam loves her, and has always had Mercy's support too.
I agree... mostly.
BUT... just because you know something, doesn't mean you *know* it. For instance, I know that rappelling is pretty much totally safe.  I've done it before.  I do a double safety-check and inspect my own equipment every time, and I never climb or rappel without someone I trust on belay.  And still, nothing in the world can convince my gut that I'm not about to plummet to my grisly death.  (I avoid rappelling whenever possible but it is an important skill for rock climbing.  And I love climbing.)

The same can be true of almost anything.  Even if Jesse wants and totally supports Adam and Mercy having a child... it doesn't mean there isn't an irrational (and I repeat: it's irrational and she KNOWS it's irrational) fear in her gut that the baby will somehow reduce her father's love for her.

Or, in a mostly-unrelated vane - if you were Jesse, knowing how many disasters Adam and Mercy have managed to get into thus far... wouldn't you be worried about, in a general sense (and beyond the obvious worrying about Adam and Mercy because you love them) "What happens to me if Dad and Mercy die?  If something happens to them, will I have to raise the baby? And if I don't, who will take care of it?  What if something happens to the baby?  Dad would go crazy if that happened... what if he did something bad like hurt Mercy or me because he lost control over the baby being hurt?"

With the way Jesse asked Mercy in FB, “When are you and Dad going to have a baby?”, I wondered if she was anxious about it happening. But at the same time she's so good with Gabriel's little sisters...

I think Jesse would be ok, with them having a baby. She loves Mercy. I personally took her baby question to Mercy as her wanting Mercy and her dad to give her a sibling. This is the first time in a few years that she's had a true family dynamic. I say that because I remember that when Christy and Adam were married, there was a lot of fighting. Then when they divorced Jesse had to contend with her mother's behavior (which couldn't be easy).  In later books she even made a comment that although she loves her mother, it was hard to be around her. It seems that since Adam married Mercy, Jesse has a more stable family foundation. So I believe she would want a little brother or sister. Just my two cents.

I think Jesse would love to have a little brother or sister! She seemed interested when she asked Mercy the question in Frost Burned!

I agree. My kids always wanted a younger sibling, preferably male (they are girls). They were adults before they gave up on the idea.
