Some of the covers for the upcoming Cry Wolf comic are available online so I thought I'd post them here for you to see:

Artwork: Jordan Gunderson, this one in B&W isn't final artwork. Still to be colored but nice to see it.

Nice looking covers.  Not sure about the color of Anna's hair, though, as I think its too dark.  In the books it is more than once described as "whiskey-colored" so I always pictured her hair as more dark blonde than actual brown.  ???

That's just a trick of the light, you'd have to see her drawn in daylight. :)

Love the last one, that looks splendid!

Moon Called #2 cover art hasn't been released yet but here's Moon Called #3 and #4. Amelia Woo has taken over the cover art in addition to the interior art. I think she's done a fantastic job with them.

Have a look at a cover that might have been. Al Rio is a fantastic comic book artist, ultimately, the cover wasn't chosen but you can have a look at it and it's also available for purchase on Al's website. Art for MC#2 will be done by Amelia (which isn't up yet).

You might get a kick out of these covers. They were the transition covers when Dabel Bros. merged with IDW comics. The artist is Clint Hilinski. When Dynamite took over the contract the covers and artwork of this incarnation of Moon Called were scrapped for the David Lawrence, Amelia Woo version that's being released now.

I like that they're using a van, and the relatively small paw print on the left hand one.  She's awfully bosomy, though.

I agree.

I love the Woo ones. They look fantastic!
As for Alpha and Omega: They look great, but Anna seems a little too confident for my taste and yes, the hair color isn't right, too. Still fantastic pictures and I love the naked Charles. :D

On this last pair, she also looks angry & pouty.  I can sort of see angry, but it looks like a default expression.

Okay, what is wrong with her face? And why does she have short, brownish hair? This looks nothing like Mercy at all.
Title: Re: Cover Art for the comics
Post by: Elle on November 02, 2010, 05:35:18 am
Her hair looks like it's in a ponytail.

I disagree. It's all over her neck.
Title: Re: Cover Art for the comics
Post by: Elle on November 02, 2010, 05:42:17 am
Yes, it looks like it's falling down. I can see the back bump of a ponytail but maybe that's just me. ;)

Messy ponytail, I'd guess.
Title: Re: Cover Art for the comics

And the pawprint is wrong, doesn't look like a real coyote paw print or even earlier versions of it. :(
Title: Re: Cover Art for the comics
Post by: Gerd D. on November 02, 2010, 07:46:51 am
Wouldn't have noticed that, but you're right. It kind of looks like a Teddybear print.
Well, the whole picture isn't exactly flattering for our poor Mercy, and what's up with that giant wrench she's holding there?
Title: Re: Cover Art for the comics
Post by: Patti L. on November 02, 2010, 08:40:10 am
3 things they got right, though.
1. BIG werewolf
2. Not big boobs
3. not tank top alone.

Actually, her hair is dark brown rather than outright black, I recall, so color is okay; the style is cruddy.  She gives me the willies more for how light her eyes look.

Lovely preview, I like the way she has grown as an artist, from her first drawings for the series. There's a nice cinematic feel to to the camera angles she chooses. And a less obvious eastern influence than you see from a lot other young artists.

Searching for a cover to part 3 i I got number 5 ( of 8 ) instead:

Nice find, Gerd! :)

We do have the art for MC#3, it's upthread a bit...I did a quick mock up of the cover which hasn't been released yet. It's a bit messy but you can definitely get the feel for it.

Why are they in the woods ???
Title: Re: Cover Art for the comics
Post by: Elle on June 25, 2011, 02:21:12 am
Because most of the story takes place in the woods.  :P

As the cover it has different aspects of the story within, it's not a snapshot of an actual moment within the story but more just a stylized piece of things that we'll read with it. Pink vet, hurt Charles, wooded environment and Anna. As covers go, I find it very attractive. I love the muted colors, almost like a watercolor.

Since it's based on the novel Cry Wolf you don't get much extra regarding that. There are one or two flashbacks to the Alpha and Omega short story though.

I think its a very dreamy cover and its def different to the usual traditional comic styled covers. I agree it does have that watercolour feel and in a lot of ways - Cry Wolf is set in a wintry forrest with a witch - so it fits the dreamy style ;D
