Just read a very favorable review in the Post of THE RIVER BANK: A Sequel to The Wind In The Willows, by Kij Johnson (award-winning SF writer) with art by Kathleen Jennings. It sounds hilarious.

I am reading the first book right now, after reading a friend's review. It's very cool, though be aware: it's definitely YA, and definitely African. The culture shock can be a little unsettling, but experiencing other worlds is one reason we read, right? I have laughed out loud a couple of times at the teenaged stuff. That's one world I don't miss, though I don't mind revisiting it in the safe confines of fiction.

Finished it last night. I liked it better toward the end than when I was starting out, and I will continue reading this author.
