So they re-write them to be PC? I don't think I've ever actually come across any.

If you want to see re-writing you should listen to the various traditional children's rhymes that all playgroups, library rhyme-times etc all now use. It's very funny seeing how the original words have been changed or added to. 'Humpty Dumpty' for example has some extra verses in which he sorts himself out and gets up again. In 'Miss Polly had a Dolly' the doctor, instead of 'I'll be back in the morning for my bill' says 'I'll be back in the morning yes I will' (where's reality here?  LOL). And so on.

Oddly, I've been thinking about PC lately, probably because of BBW. I can see two
sides to the issue. As many of you know, I spend a lot of time listening to Old Time
Radio shows, and some of the depictions of Blacks, Native Americans, and ethnic
groups actually make me cringe. :-\

But, of course, things are often taken a bit too far, then they sort of settle. I think
we should be aware of how our words affect people; Being Gay - an "invisible"
minority - I have heard a lot of hurtful things in my life.

Sometimes, though, we just need to cowboy up and deal with it.

V'mon, and probably Gerd, Snoopy, Lakritz, CheeseBK, if they were here more, could say a lot about Politically Correct overkill.

As it is, I do want to make a special effort to read at least 2 items from one or more lists of Banned Books during the week.

Getting closer!  Have you reserved a banned book or two?

Or offered to help your local library or bookstore with their celebration? Maybe donate a banned or challenged book to your library?

I believe I'll watch 1984 (1984) and/or Fahrenheit 451(1966). :)

Yeah, I think that is the important point about being PC, not to try and retcon the past but to serve to remind us that we should every so often reflect about our words and their possible impact on other people.
