John Scalzi
« on: April 02, 2011, 02:48:10 am »
For those of you who have no idea who he is or what I'm talking about, John Scalzi  is the President of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.

In August 2006, Scalzi was awarded the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer for best new science fiction writer of 2005.

His most noted work so  far has been the "Old Man's War" series, which uses the idea that it is better to let old people fight, as they are less of a loss to society if they die.

I was thinking of starting a thread about John Scalzi, but you beat me to it!

There is of course, the 'Old Man's War' series, which is brilliant
Old Man's War
The Ghost Brigades
The Last Colony
Zoe's Tale

And then there are his more humorous works
Android's Dream
Agent to the Stars

and most recently
The God Engines
which I have to say I did not enjoy and found very disturbing. It's very different from his previous works.

Have I missed any?

I've never read any Scalzi, but I'm seriously thinking of reading Redshirts. It's received good reviews and I love the in-joke. I enjoy his blog, "Whatever", too.

You could try that or his "re-imagination" tribute to H.Beam Piper, "Fuzzy Nation", I hear good things about him, even if I haven't read any of his stuff yet myself.
