Patti: Hi, Elle.  I see you made it earlier than anticipated.
Elle: hi Patti :)
Patti: So...River Marked.  :D
Patti: Regarding what is still up, do you think I'm right about the reasons it's so good Warren did feed Stefan?  I will if I can.
Elle: hopefully you'll be better and not have a cold
Elle: I didn't read your reasoning
Elle: Hi Varg
Patti: Oh, it'll be long gone by then!  Hi, Varg.
Elle: Why did you think it was a good reason?
Varg joined the chat
Varg: Hi :)
Elle: :)
Elle: Glad you could pop in for a bit.
Varg: I have the day off tomorrow, so barring complete exhaustion I have no real need to go sleep early.  I even opened a bottle of wine. I deserve a glass after this weekends work
Elle: sweet! :D
Patti: Had three reasons; reinforces friendship between the two, means S. is less apt to kill one of his remaining flock, & just he needed the meal.
Patti: Good you have a day off, Varg.
Varg: I think so ,)
Varg: I think those are valid reasons.
Elle: I agree. Valid reasons for sure
Patti: And like Carol said, he can feed his flock in return.
Elle: I have to say...I feel rather bad for Stefan's menagerie
Elle: I didn't think the whole with Marsilia had hit him that hard.
Elle: Hi Ellyll. :)
Patti: Yeah, they got hit hard.
Ellyll joined the chat
Ellyll: Hi. :)
Elle: Poor Naiomi
Patti: Hi, Ellyll
Varg: Yeah, somehow depression is not something I thought would happen fro Stefan.
Varg: Hi Ellyll
Elle: I really didn't expect Marsilia to hurt them that badly
Ellyll: * blows kisses all around *
Patti: The older ones are more prone to that in both V. & W.
Elle: I agree Varg
Ellyll: I can completely see Stefan getting depressed.  He's been heading there for a while.
Elle: maybe it's a crossroads for him
Patti: She might not have done personally, but let others, since she doesn't care, or understand S's care.
Elle: I will be disappointed if he toes the line with Marsilia despite his feelings for her
Patti: It's very complex, it reminds me of the Miles Vorkosigan thing about "the world devolves into the foresworn or the dead."
Elle: Hi CK :)
Varg: I think Marsilia does not see humans as real sentient beings, they are only counters in her game of powers.
Elle: I think Patty mentioned bookending the novel with Stefan so we get this bit in the beginning and perhaps see him more himself near the end
Varg: The relationship stefan has with Marsilia seems to be more about liege and sworn than any sort of love story.
Elle: good point, Varg
Patti: It always confuses me that vamps think that way, since they are transformed humans.
CarolKat joined the chat
Ellyll: Hi, CK!
CarolKat: Hi guys!
Varg: Hi Ck
Patti: Hi, Carol.
Ellyll: I agree with you, Varg.
CarolKat: I was trying to read back but it kept pulling me here. LOL
Ellyll: Well, Patti, they're transformed humans from a medieval or Renaissance time, so things were different then.
Elle: do you guys think Stefan will break with Marsilia now?
Patti: Ellyll, you posted your riddle in whole on the thread!
Elle: and perhaps ally with another vamp?
Patti: Even much younger vamps act that way too, though.  Estelle, Bernard...
Varg: yes, that is strange Patti, but maybe is part of the change. a necessary change of view when humans beccomes a source of food. Otherwise how could you keep on feeding.
Ellyll: Damn!  That's what I get for trying to do two things at once!
Varg: I mean it has some overtones of cannibalism
Varg: LOL
Elle: isn't honor everything to the vamps though?
CarolKat: But honor to them is different that to us mortals.
Patti: They also go through the lengthy transformation process that may help them achieve that distance, unlike werewolves who go to sleep human & wake up werewolves, more or less.
Zealith joined the chat
Zealith: Hey everyone!
Elle: Hi Z!
CarolKat: Hi Z!
Patti: Hi, Z.
Varg: Hi Z
Elle: Ithink I'm confusing the convo. Are we talking about the vamp distain for humans? or the stefan/marsilia bond?
Zealith: I agree with Varg a little up thread. How can you think of your food as being equal to you?
Patti: There are two threads going, shall we concentrate on one, then the other?
Ellyll: Hi, Z!
Ellyll: I'm with Elle.  I'm getting a bit confused, too.
Elle: I'm a bit confused to be honest.
Zealith: Alright, let's talk specific with Stefan and Marsilla first, as that's closer to the book?
Patti: Okay.
Elle: okay. :D sounds good.
Varg: sounds good, I think I had it but who knows lol
Varg: So the liege, sworn type relationship going on between Marsilia and Stefan.....
CarolKat: So Stefan hasn't been to the seethe or anywhere else since he got his people back and Naomi died.  Marsilla did a good deal of torture to all of them. I think he will break .
Zealith: Yeah, definately not romantic
Ellyll: I think he already broke.
CarolKat: I don't think he'll do anything to her as he is loyal but he will break from the seethe
Elle: I really hope that he begins a turf war with Marsilia
Elle: she needs to be taken down a peg
Varg: Those type of relationships are not one sided, there is obligation on her side too. I wonder if her treatment of his sheep might constitute an oath braking?
Zealith: I agree, but I don't think Stefan has it in him to completely turn on her like that.
CarolKat: She needs to be taken down, maybe if Stefan keeps drinking from Weres he will do it.
Elle: I hope he does Zealith...because it verges on abusive right now. she can do anything to him and he'll take it...I dont' like that. I want a fighting response from him, but I don't know if we'll get it
Ellyll: I don't see him starting a turf war.
Varg: Maybe not Z. I am not completely sure though. and for some reason I think that if or when he breaks with her it will be a completely and utterly. No middle ground.
Ellyll: Breaking from the seethe, though, that I could see.
Elle: Varg, I can't see her caring enough for the humans to consider it oath breaking
CarolKat: But what about Ford, that would be oath breaking he is almost vampire
Zealith: Hmm, I could see him leaving. But not actually rising against her. breaking away completely and going else where.
Varg: No, but that is not about what she considers oathbreaking or breaking of trust but what Stefan would see it as.
Elle: Ford is freaky
Zealith: Yeah, I wouldn't want to be left along with him
CarolKat: But was he hurt like the others? Or was just his human people
Varg: Freaky Ford! LOL
Ellyll: Ford isn't vampire, he's still sheep.  So, I imagine he was hurt along with the others.
Varg: I think they were all hurt, and maybe him being where he is in the transformation would make Stefans neglect and not having his support worse.
Elle: The vamps seem too powerful. I want gauntlet guy or the master of milan to show up and school Marsilia
Patti: You know what would be smart on their part?
Ellyll: That might not be better.
CarolKat: i don't know about gauntlet guy could Stefan take him if he takes out Marsilla?
Varg: change the known ill for an unknown one?
Varg: What would be smart Patti?
Ellyll: Hi, Rose.
Elle: no...it might not be better. :D
Varg: Hi Rose
Patti: What might be smart would be for them to school her, and consult with the werweolves & fae about coming out.  It's going to have to happen eventually.
Zealith: I agree Patti.
Elle: I can't see it being good for them to reveal themselves. PR nightmare
Varg: School her in modern times? That would be smart, she seems to be a bit out of touch with the world.
CarolKat: Yeah, people staying at home at night scared to be bitten
Elle: they do kill people. it's their nature...I don't know how they could spin that right now
Zealith: Yeah, but staying in hiding until they're forced out with no damage control won't be good either
Varg: Elle, that is true! I do not see how to make a positive spin on vampires outside of books and film
Ellyll: There's no way to spin "we eat people to live" in a good way.
Patti: Stefan as poster boy for vampires.
CarolKat: They have no respect for human life there is no way to spin that right unless Stefan points out being able to help with blood diseases
Elle: Stefan is the only one that could do that. Out of all of them
Patti: If they offer it as he's suggested, as a way to stave off some of the nasty deaths...
Varg: might work, still it is the whole we eat people thing
Elle: Hi Rose. :)
Patti: Then suggest that criminals be their prey.
CarolKat: Hi rose!
Zealith: Yes, "I may need blood to live, but it's rare for such to kill my people I feed from and they get health benefits.'
Rose joined the chat
Varg: Cruel and unusual punishment!
Zealith: Hey Rose
Varg: Hi Rose.
Patti: Maybe in the US, but there are other countries that don't have that proviso in their laws.
Patti: Plus, historically, prisoners have volunteered for medical experiments.  They could be offered that choice too.
CarolKat: World wide there could be negative respone

Elle cleared the room
CarolKat: And oops sorry I just killed the child molester.
Elle: sorry. thanks. it was super buggy for me for some reason
Ellyll: Becoming a vampire, with all its strengths, might be enough incentive for a violent criminal.  Which isn't such a good thing.
Zealith: lol CK
CarolKat: That's why oops. I didn't mean to drink so much!
CarolKat: He was so tasty
Elle: no...I dont' see that being a good thing in the long run. but I guess they're mostly immortal sociopaths already
Rose: Hi all! I am not going to stick around because I never read the Mercy books but I just wanted to see how this chat place worked for further reference.
Zealith: Yeah, but they could limit it so you could only donate x many times, too few to become a vampire
Elle: np, Rose. :)
CarolKat: but vampires could call them to them
CarolKat: that wouldn't be good at all
Zealith: I suppose you could feed them the prisoners on death row
Patti: Yeah, costs less than frying them or using a chemical
Elle: Mind you, I thought werewolves were a hard sell. Vampires are tougher
Ellyll: Z, I didn't think there was a defined limit.  I think you just get there when you get there.  And I wouldn't trust most vampires to abide by that limit.
CarolKat: and what about the blood exchanges...not a good thing either for a criminal more strength and stuff
Elle: weren't they an open secret in Europe?
Zealith: I believe so, but that was quiet a while ago.
Patti: So make it a rule, feed TO vampire, no feed FROM.
Elle: Good point, CK. they do get a little extra boost.
Elle: ah...vampires...what to do...what to do
Ellyll: Well, Stefan didn't come out so well in this, either.
CarolKat: stake em all except Stefan
CarolKat: LOL
Ellyll: He left his remaining flock in a pretty bad way while he wallowed.
CarolKat: Mercy and Warren and Kyle have him back on track I think!
Patti: Shoot, Sam was wallowing in SB, so why shouldn't Stefan?
Zealith: Yeah. I feel pretty bad about them, especially since it seemed like they were still more concerned with Stefan than with the state they were in.
Ellyll: Because Sam's wallowing didn't have people getting terrorized and brutalized, and Stefan's did.
CarolKat: Without Stefan they all die
CarolKat: much more dire circumstance
Ellyll: And they're mentally/emotionally dependent on him, as well.
Elle: I'm just glad that he has people that care enough about him to try to help him
Elle: even if it is a cuff to the back of the head
Zealith: I think it's the emotionally dependent thing that was driving his concern.
Zealith: their concern I mean
Patti: I'm still intrigued by the potentially part-fae vampire from the movie.
Ellyll: I missed the part-fae part.
Elle: I need to re-read that bit
CarolKat: He was able to walk in daylight to film the movie.
Ellyll: So was Blackwood.
Patti: And he had the other creepy powers.  Scared the Master of Milan.
Zealith: Yeah, Mercy said he might be part fae and that might have explained.
Ellyll: And Stefan implied that Max Schrek was so very old.  Maybe he's just Neanderthal. ;)
Elle: maybe they become a super vamp?
Elle: Ellyll. Heheh
Patti: In Blood Bound, there was the info that it's forbidden to change other than fully human to vamps, maybe he's the reason?
Elle: good point, patti. I was wondering that as well. I mean it has to have been tried in order for them to forbid it right?
CarolKat: I forgot about that one. Makes sense.
Elle: okay...I missed this part
Elle: mercy is speculating that it wouldn't be long before the vampires were outed
Patti: Yeah, who would forbid a person to try to eat a whole giraffe?  Unless it was tried.
Elle: I can see it happening not controlled like it was for the fae and for the werewolves...but maybe just bang! vampires!
Patti: It would make an interesting twist, all right.
Ellyll: Yeah.  That could be interesting, huh?
CarolKat: And once that happens, Marsilla is in deep doo doo
Zealith: I think that will wind up happening Elle. They don't seem to even be thinking of the possibility. But maybe that's because we're only seeing once seethe, and a minor one at that.
Ellyll: And Marsilia's seethe seems sort of isolated..
Elle: they seem isolated def. I want to see a European seethe
Ellyll: Maybe Charles and Anna.
Elle: that would be cool.
Ellyll: Will see it, I mean.
Zealith: I could see Charles having to do some interaction with the Seethes, though I would think that Bran might have a werewolf specifically working with vampire relations
Elle: :D I'd like to see charles and anna in Europe
CarolKat: I don't think Anna would be too thrilled about it after Hunting Ground
Patti: Oh, what effect would a Werewolf Omega have on vampires?
Ellyll: I thought Bran's idea of vampire relations was "we won't eat you if you don't bother us."
CarolKat: exactly Ellyll
Varg: That is what I thought too Ellyll
Ellyll: Anna didn't have any effect on the vampires she's met so far, Patti.  I don't think it'll work.
Elle: good point, Ellyll. I dont' see an alliance anytime soon. I think I'm bloodthirsty because I'd like to see a throwdown
Varg: But the vampires she met so far she met under attack. She has to be somewhat peaceful herself for the effect to take place, does she not?
Patti: OMG: Throwdown with Bobby Flay?  ROFL
Varg: LOL
Zealith: I suppose Bran might just leave it up to individual packs to deal with the vampires how they want too. No matter how much you hate another group, if you're sharing space you will need to meet on occation
Elle: ;)
CarolKat: :D
Patti: Like wolves & bears or grizzlies vs black bears in the same territory.
Elle: i think there's a lot of animosity between vamps and weres. all that arrogance butting heads. :D
Patti: The fake newspaper stories are interesting too, aren't they?
Elle: Patti! I was just thinking of them
Patti: Jinx!
Ellyll: I especially like the missing fish one.
Elle: so I can't remember was the man mercy and adam found older or younger? so the father or son?
Zealith: I liked the fake newspaper stories
Elle: oh...wait...neither. their boat was recovered
Patti: Or does he have anything to do with the article?  Is he a month later?
Elle: he doens't Patti. I misread. :D
Elle: I liked the fish story as well, Ellyll. This is going to be a creepy one for sure
Zealith: I think what ever he was afraid of for the father/son pair and ate the fish
Patti: So do you suppose the whatsit is escalating prey?
Ellyll: Or running out of food, since the fish are gone.
CarolKat: I am pretty sure dying fish are because of the whatsit.
Varg: It does sound like it
Patti: Or is it taking the prey of opportunity?
Elle: i wonder if it was always there feeding...or did somthing awaken it
Ellyll: Good question.
Patti: Or has it migrated there from somewhere else it's driven from/bored with?
Ellyll: Or summoned?
Elle: eee...so many good specs :D
Patti: That's another possibility.
Zealith: I liked the idea of it having been summoned
Elle: the part with Mercy's father, gave me shivers
Varg: me too.
Elle: I did not suspect that to be him at all.
Ellyll: I loved that part.
Varg: No, not at all.
Varg: I really liked the way he was described
CarolKat: I wonder if we'll find out he was killed by vampires?
Elle: me too, Varg!
Ellyll: I'm so sure.
Zealith: I'd like to know what too CK
Ellyll: Ooh!  What if he was killed by Stefan?
Elle: i think he was killed by something and always suspected vamps
CarolKat: OH NO! That would kill Mercy's friendship with him forever!
Patti: I'm wondering why he resisted going on to whatever should come next, and become a ghost.
Varg: Wasn't there always something suspicious about the car accident?
Elle: maybe  it's part of being a walker
Ellyll: It's certainly been implied that vampires killed him.
Elle: walking in between worlds
Ellyll: And Stefan said they usually kill walkers.
Varg: that is certainly a possibility Ellyll.
CarolKat: He bled out but his wounds weren't severe enough , even though he wasn't foubnd right away
Elle: his coyote and he seemed very aware
Varg: I hope Stefan is not the one who killed him¨.
Ellyll: I hope not, too, but it just occurred to me.
Ellyll: It'd make for good story.
Varg: Walker ghosts are probably different.
Ellyll: I think you may be right, Varg and Elle.  Maybe walkers can decide to be ghosts or not from moment to moment.
Elle: I'm excited to learn more about Walkers
Ellyll: Me, too.  I've been dying to find out, and BC only whetted my appetite.
Patti: Yes, more about Walkers!
Elle: oh...Ellyll...that's interesting. I do hope that Mercy gets to run as a coyote with her father.
Patti: Do you want to clear again?
Elle: sure. let me save

Elle cleared the room
Elle: :)
Zealith: Maybe he didn't decide to stay behind. In BC Mercy said that some ghosts seemed to have a soul still and some didn't. I don't think it mentioned if she thought her father still had his soul.
Patti: He was certainly aware, unlike most repeater ghosts, and even Daniel.
Patti: Although, as someone who was already technically dead when Ben ate him, his ghost could be different too.
Elle: such a warrior. loved it. I hope that we learn more about him and why he choose to be there at that moment
Ellyll: But some of the other ghosts have been aware, too.
Zealith: Yes, but so was Mrs Hanna I think was her name. But I don't think she had chosen to remain behind.
Zealith: Beat me too it Ellyll. :D
Ellyll: LOL
Patti: She was somewhat aware, but starting to fade/get confused.
CarolKat: Mercy said she would fade eventually
Ellyll: I couldn't remember her name.
Elle: Austin was aware as well
Ellyll: But she left that picture of Adam, remember?
Ellyll: And, yep, Austin.
Elle: He had that conversation with mercy about his brother
CarolKat: She had something to do... So did Austen Makes sense
Zealith: Yes, but eventually could be 300 years from now
Ellyll: Maybe Mercy's father has something to do, too.
Patti: Very likely he does.
Elle: I wonder what it is. :D Is it March yet? no? damn
Patti: I'm interested too in the fact that he manifested dancing... for what?
CarolKat: 8 more weeks Elle *sigh*
Ellyll: Another month and a half....
Zealith: I'd like to think it was wanted to help his daughter understand what she was, but I also doubt he even knew he was going to have a child.
CarolKat: Preparation for a ritual maybe with Mercy his daughter?
Patti: If Marji didn't know she was pregnant, it's not entirely likely he knew... even with coyote nose.
CarolKat: He's dead he knows now I bet
CarolKat: Since she has his gift
Elle: I wonder if he's been watching over her in any way?
Elle: could be the one that gave Bran and mercy the boost?
Zealith: Yes, he might also have known because its a trait of walkers. Remember, we still don't know everything they can do.
Ellyll: Oh, I like that, Elle.
Patti: Both good points.
CarolKat: Maybe he helped Marji find his great uncle? So she would have him.
Zealith: I like that idea too.
Elle: so many delicious things to find out. :D
Elle: so burning question
CarolKat: Yes
Elle: regular otters? or something more?
Patti: It was HER great-uncle, not his; nobody in his perported tribe admitted to so much as knowing him, let alone being related.
Ellyll: Good point, Patti.
Ellyll: I kind of like Marji having done it on her own.
Patti: He might have steered her toward help, though.
Elle: Margi's a pistol. I'd love to see her around Bran
Ellyll: Coyote in the crib; she already knew she needed help. LOL
Varg: Elle that would be a sight.
Elle: I did love to see Warren and Kyle. Warren is one of my favorites.
Ellyll: Mine, too.  And I adore Kyle.
Ellyll: Besides, I love movie night.
Varg: Me too, I really like them, and movie night is fun!
Zealith: Their movie nights are awsome.
Elle: Movie night is great! I love that Adam is usually there. fun
CarolKat: All the new lovebirds together watching fun flicks
Ellyll: I wonder what the Walkers will make of Adam.
Elle: I know! :D
Elle: Ellyll, that's going to be juicy, for sure
Varg: they will make a bow?
Ellyll: Or a fuss.
Zealith: I imagine them as being too independent to bow to anyone.
Ellyll: They may consider it their mission to defend against werewolves, not just vampires....
Elle: I am curious about the nature of Walkers. it's going to be fun to find these things out
Ellyll: It was interesting that they could control ghosts.  I want to see what else they can do.
Elle: did anyone think the hawk might be one?
Ellyll: I suspect Mercy's barely begun to tap her abilities.
Ellyll: Yes, I did wonder about the hawk.
Elle: totally Ellyll
Elle: there was the thing with raising the dead as well.
Zealith: Me too. And the otters. They could be walkers as well, or they could be allies of the river monster, or just otters
Patti: Raising?
CarolKat: Damn I have go back and read the snippets....
Varg: raising the dead?! I thought it was just seeing ghosts.
Patti: Jinx, Varg
Elle: yes, blackwood raised Amber she wasn't quite a zombie and he learned that from the walker he had
Patti: Huh...re-read!
Ellyll: I don't think he raised her so much as kept her soul trapped.
Zealith: But he didn't need the walkers power to do it.
Ellyll: In her body.  Even though it was all dead.
Varg: The way I remember that that was part of his vampire powers. I thought what he needed the walker for was to "inherit" powers from other beings.
Elle: it was something that he learned from Carson
Ellyll: No, the inheriting powers was his own talent.  That's how he could use the Walker skills, and the oakman's
Elle: hang a mo let me find it.
Ellyll: The Walker talent let him control ghosts.
Elle: page 284. "she's not a zombie" ..."this is something that I learned from Carson. interesting that one murder left him unable to do anything with his powers"
Patti: Strange power, that one.
Elle: he doesn't say anything more about it though...just that he'll have to refrigerator her body or dispose of soon
Varg: Huh, so in Walkers seems to be able to trap a soul? *shudders*
Ellyll: Or control a dead one.
Elle: maybe Blackwood corrupted the usage of it
Patti: Or maybe it's something that some individuals do have & some don't, like Stefan's being able to "go between" like Marsilia, unlike Andre.
Elle: they could do it for something else. it could be vampire related?
Patti: Among Walkers, I mean.
Varg: That is entirely possible. Blackwood was not the most benevolent person....
Varg: It might have to do with why they are/were dangerous to vampires true.
Elle: a vampire is a dead person like Amber was...he could control Amber...hmmm...interesting. I'll have to think on that one
Ellyll: I think it might be vampire-related.  I don't think Mercy knows the whole story about why vampires fear walkers.  Just having them hunt vamps doesn't seem reason enough.
Elle: i wonder if mercy convinced a vampire that it was dead that it would in truth die like Amber did when she realized it
Zealith: Good point Ellyll and Elle
Ellyll: Remember how she could only control the ghosts when it occurred to her to try it?
Ellyll: Maybe the same applies to vampires...
Patti: That's an interesting idea.  She adamantly refused Stefan's assertation that he was dead, but if she said it firmly to Marsilia... >D
Elle: Hehe
Elle: Some great things to mull over here
Ellyll: I still think there's going to be some bad reveal about Stefan.  Don't know why, but I do.
Ellyll: Even if it's just that he kept Walker secrets from her.
CarolKat: I so like that idea! One dead Marsilla. By words only. >D
Varg: CK words and will, the most powerful tools.
Elle: i think I read from one of the chats that Stefan could only tell Mercy what he knew of Walkers...which was only a tip of the iceburg
Patti: I wonder if Mercy has to believe it too... Amber, she knew about & knew her before she died.  She's only known the vamps after their 'deaths'.
Elle: I like that Mercy sees herself as weaker but in the end could be the strongest of them because of this
Patti: She may not have a view of the forceful personalities she knows as anything but 'alive' in their own way.
CarolKat: Words and will of which Patty controls us all! Yes Mercy will be stronger and more powerful by the end of this book I know it!
Varg: Yes, but only if she wants to end a vampire. If, not then the vampire still seems to have the upper hand.
CarolKat: Even with the tools lent from the Fae she had to want it and really mean it.
Elle: I would think that no European vampires have come into contact with Walkers
Ellyll: She may very much want to end Marsilia, after all this.
Elle: I agree. marsilia is right to be concerned with the coyote in the mix
Patti: Yes, what happened to Andre's flock, not good, but she didn't know them.
Patti: The innocents Littleton killed, bad, but still not people she knew.
Ellyll: And she didn't know what she could do, either.
Patti: But Stefan & his flock... too much.  One more push, and she could go postal on Marsilia.
Elle: This is going to be an interesting book
Ellyll: Very interesting.  I want it....
CarolKat: So much going on...I want it now!
Varg: Yes it is. My patience is wearing thin just from our speculations. Want! Nao!
Elle: Group hug all around!
Varg: Hugs
CarolKat: Want the ARC....
Patti: Hugs!
CarolKat: HUGS - to Pass around
Zealith: HUGS!
Varg: LOL Even if I should have luck and win the ARC it still would need maybe three weeks shipping time....
Ellyll: HUGS!
Patti: So, what are the opinions on the "weed" holding her feet?
Zealith: It's the monster. Gotta be
Ellyll: Early monster, definitely.
Patti: Weed, or creature?
CarolKat: It was the whatsit, monster
Varg: Creature. Not sure if it was the big nasty though
Elle: I think it was part of the monster...not it but perhaps something that traps things for it to feed on
Varg: I agree
Varg: Hi Janileee
Elle: Hi Janilee :)
Patti: Hi, Janilee.
Ellyll: Hi Janilee.
CarolKat: Hi Janilee
Janilee joined the chat
Janilee: Hello all!
Elle: I laughed at myself because I was worried that Adam wasnt'  around. I was afraid something had happened to him
Ellyll: Dinner's up, so I'm off.  Good night, all.  It was a fun chat. :)
Patti: So, what's your op on the "weed"; plant, minor monster, or the big bad?
Elle: night Ellyll! it was fun :D
Janilee: plant used to aid in the tension of the moment.
Varg: Night Ellyl. Bon Appetit.
Ellyll left the chat
Janilee: Good night Ellyl.
Varg: I like the idea of it being connected to the monster.
Elle: definitely creepy when it wouldnt' let go of her leg
CarolKat: Nite Ellyll
Janilee: Just cause I think it's just a convenient prop does not mean it wasn't the monster.
CarolKat: I thought for sure it was going to pull her under... and Adam was going to scream on the beach
Varg: LOL
has joined the chat
Elle: CK heh
Patti: Yeah, werewolves no help in the water.  Heh heh heh.
Elle: Hey Has! xo
has: Am I too late? :P
CarolKat: Hi has your bookpusherness!
has: hey guys! I conked out watching Candleford and just woke up :D
Patti: We're still chatting.  The weed?
has: LOL
Elle: we're still chatting :D
Varg: Hi has
has: yay! :D
CarolKat: I could see Adam trying to go in the water and then not beinga ble to...
Janilee: Hello Has. Glad you woke up.
CarolKat: He's almost drown once already
Elle: yes...definitely a bad thing to have a water monster and be a werewolf
Varg: taking a werewolf to a waterproblem is not good. lol Especially not an alpha
Zealith: I wonder if it's like a tenticle for the monster
has: Its almost 1 :P so my internal clock is gonna be all screwy - I think water and Mercy's fear of people she loved drowning is going to be faced here
Janilee: Some kind of symbiote for the monster not the monster itself?
Varg: Ew! or a mini monster
Elle: the poor guy in the boat...I wonder what is was that chewed on him
Mikel joined the chat
Mikel: nom nom nom
Mikel is eating peanuts fried in garlic oil and thick slices of garlic
has: mmmm nice :D hey Wycked!
Janilee: Better than the foot of a fishermen.
Patti: Whew, Wycked, either share or point your face somewhere else!
has: I think th e monster marks/targets people in some way
Elle: I really like the idea of exploring the Native American mythology
Varg: maybe there is some people who are extra tasty?
Varg: Hi Wycked.
'
Elle: ha
CarolKat: Hi wycked!
Patti: That is going to be fun!  Yes, likely there are some who are delicacies.
CarolKat: Maybe the river marked her for the kill!
Mikel points to the VERY large pot of peanuts fresh from the friers and lightly salted
Janilee: Do magical people taste better or worse than nonmagical folk?
Elle: CK! nice :D
CarolKat: Nom Nom Nom
Mikel: depends on the magic
Elle: Good point, Janilee.
Mikel: Toxic Shamans for instance would not taste very good
has: I was thinking maybe the monster has is semi corporeal as well- I bet Mercy's ankle will be marked somehow
Varg: CK. :o  Fanks Wycked Nom nom
CarolKat: River marked her as a walker and should be taken
Varg: Maybe that is why her dad showed up?
Mikel nibbles on Has
Janilee: Or the river marked her as one who should not be taken?
Varg: Oh, wait. We do not know the timelines
Patti: Nom, nom.  Maybe for an evil monster, either very wicked or very good people taste best?
CarolKat: Ack!
Elle: so many great ideas here
Varg: lol or she was not marked only tasted and let go.
CarolKat: Need more snippets
CarolKat: starts pacing
Varg: munches lovely peanuts and paces along with CK.
has: need the book! :D
Mikel slips a banana peel in CK's path while sliding a pool of Banana Pudding behind her
Janilee: Don't we all. LOL
Elle: i think more snippets would give me a speculating mind explosion
Mikel: i am avoiding the snippets or I will keep trying to anticipate where they fall in the book
Patti: So easy to get it wrong from snippets...
Varg: snippets are a special kind of torture.
CarolKat: Falls on arse, ouch! I want the book nao!!!!!!!
has: brb getting some nibbles for real
Elle: they are a special kind of torture
Mikel: how did you manage to miss the pool of banana pudding CK?
CarolKat: The kind of torture that keeps us speculating and help the wait for the book kinda...
CarolKat: Talented I guess
Janilee: But they work  on the mind so well, if you are saturated in the world setting/.
Varg: True, if you are not well immersed I do not know if the snippets would be such fun.
Elle: I haven't seen those vampire movies that they were watching on Bad movie night. heard of them though
CarolKat: So true Janilee, if we weren't so immersed we wouldn't speculate like we do from the minute we have a title
CarolKat: You should rent them they are pretty bad.
Elle: specualting is half the fun :D
CarolKat: and you have the books to help youlaugh at them
Patti: If we have another meet up, maybe we can rent them & have a bad movie night of our own.
Elle: I love how Mike tries to rein us in. :D where we all just go crazy on the littlest thing. lol
Janilee: I did push one librarian into the Briggsverese with just the first chapter of Cry Wolf
Mikel: Tossed pics of the peanuts I am eating in the What are you Eating thread
Elle: good job, Janilee! :D
Varg: I am so happy there is a place to speculate! I have not managed to convert any of my friends yet. for some reason they do not want to read in english ???
Elle: are there no translations yet, Varg?
Mikel: translate for them...<innocent whistle>
CarolKat: I love the way Mike gives little hints in the speculation thread to fuel the fires.
Varg: Wycked will there be a recipe too?
Varg: Translate... that is an art that requires talent and training.
CarolKat: Wycked yummy want recipe
Elle: maybe if you keep telling them how fantastic they are they'll fold and try one. :D
CarolKat: You can do it Varg!
Janilee: With as well as you communicate with us, it should be a breeze for you! :)
Elle: I'm just going to clear

Elle cleared the room
Mikel: okay now that would be a book signing I would love to go to! Kim Harrison and PAtty in Houston!
Zealith: Maybe you should just read it to them? :P
Mikel: not my recipe to give, I didn't make them. I found a Flip restaurant for Tofu
CarolKat: torturer you!
Varg: :D That would be something. a monthly get together with wine and people reading favourites
Mikel is listening to Michelle Pfieffer and Robert Redford making love
Zealith: That would be a lot of fun.
Janilee: I'm trying to convince my sister a really great early present would be a book signed in the Chicago signing.
Zealith: *imagines it now*
Elle: looks like spoiler/spec has stalled for a bit. :D I'm off to go grab some dinner but will be back to grab more of the chat. later everyone! I had a fantastic time
Zealith: See ya
CarolKat: Bye Elle
Varg: later Elle.
Janilee: Good bye Elle.
Patti: So long, Elle.
CarolKat: Thank you!
Mikel: WOOT! Kim is going to be in Tucson! 2 hours instead of 5 hours away!
Janilee: Still think it's just a wet, slimy, scary plant.
Zealith: So, back on topic, a little, butterflies. I can see it now, Mercy's wedding will look like the monarch butterfly's migration.
Mikel: its the KRAKEN!
CarolKat: with the addition of golden balloons
has: bac
Patti: Oh, reminds me of the tentacles on the Graboids in "Tremors".
Varg: LOL the butterflies made me lol
has: back!
CarolKat: Hey has
Varg: Hi again has.
CarolKat: the pigeons too.
CarolKat: LOL
Varg: The Kraken is not a river monster though, maybe a relative?
Patti: The way Marji barges over Mercy really grates on my nerves, though.
Zealith: I can't believe Mercy is letting her mom plan her wedding.
Varg: Pigeons, butterflies and balloons. Or maybe swallows, they might try eating the butterflies....
Varg: Yes, that is a but annoying.
Janilee: There is a celtic (Scottish) monster that grabs people crossing rivers and streams.
Varg: Sorry, a bit annoying
has: The butterfly thing is real :D - I think her mum wants to use it to help bridge their relationship
Janilee: Do you think Mercy is letting her mother or is her mother railroading the process?
CarolKat: I think Adam is to blame for the wedding planning going to Marji
Mikel hooks Has' chair to his motorcycle and takes her for a ride
Varg: lol I saw that has. very strange!
Patti: I am not shocked that the butterfly thing is true.
Varg: How so CK?
Zealith: I think she's somewhat railroading, but mercy is old enough, and far enough away that she could tell her mother no.
Patti: Maybe a combo of her charming him & his & Mercy being terrified of her?
has: I think its a bit of both about her mother *hollars behind Wycked*
CarolKat: He felt bad that Marji's other daughter eloped so, he's letting her do the planning
Patti: That could be part of it too.  I still don't like her being bridal momzilla.
Varg: Maybe it is about Mercy giving something to Margi too. By letting her do the wedding she includes her much more in her life than previously. Maybe Margi needs to do something for Mercy.
Janilee: I want to see the wolves deal with the dancing bear!
has: I think she just wants to create a special day for her and feels this could be it
Patti: There isn't really a dancing bear, right, that's just a speculation Stefan was playing with?
Zealith: I can see how Margi might be feeling, but still, she's really not listening to Mercy at all.
has: I loved Patty's injoke about the bellydancers
Varg: No, not at all. There seems to be a lot of miscommunications betwen them.
Patti: Marji doesn't listen.  And Mercy has secrets meant to keep Marji & the rest of the family safe.
Janilee: Stefan offered to find one and inform Marji where it might be found.
CarolKat: Mom ain't listening! Kyle and Warren and Stefan all teasing her! LOL
has: They have to talk about that and I dont think have that is part of the problem and I bet the wedding has given Margi an excuse to contact Mercy more
CarolKat: If Mercy answers the phone!
Zealith: I don't think Mercy would have forgotten to tell her mother no doves.
has: She probably aswered more but the doves and what else must have driven her mad LOL
CarolKat: She did over and over I bet
Varg: As I remember the phone convo she def had told her no doves.
Janilee: Mercy seems to think she vetoed the dove/pigeons at some point in time.
Varg: I think maybe Margi hears but does not listen.
Patti: That's likely.  I wonder what the step-father dentist thinks of it all.
has: Yeah
CarolKat: He's probably hiding in his office
Varg: LOL probably. Or else he is helping with suggestions.....
Patti: Trying to rein Marji in?
Janilee: Or the money she's planning to spend on this shindig!
Varg: Might be, he'd have to be strong too.
has: I think he's probably a Yes Dear hubby :D
has: think Adam is going to pay for it
CarolKat: That's what I thought when they were at dinner in SB
Janilee: Perhaps, but that is traditionally the bride's family's job.
CarolKat: Or the Bride herself...and Mercy wouldn't go that far. she wants simple.
Patti: Yes, I think Mercy would prefer a very small, quiet wedding.
Varg: or the coupple pays for their own wedding. Thus avoiding parents taking over....
Janilee: Mercy did suggest eloping.
CarolKat: Doesn't stop some parents though. Suggestions that make you want to scream
has: U know what my sister said once to my mum when she got married - she complained and my mum said its not really ur day its mine :D
has: she had to go thru it with her own mother therefore u go thru it with me :D
Varg: it is a cyckle.
Varg: cycle?
Patti: Cruel, that.  Makes me glad it was never a question with me.  Cycle.  No "K".
Janilee: Family tradition at its most horrid! LOL
Varg: lol
CarolKat: LOL
Patti: That's true...although, did anyone see the wedding episode of "Taxi" where Latka and whazername got married?
has: Oh def! :D It wasn't so much the wedding but the prep and the bossing around LOL
CarolKat: My first wedding was like that my second was the one I dreamed of/
Patti: Wow, night & day difference, Carol.
CarolKat: You bet!
Patti: Still, your mother, not your M-i-L, right?
Janilee: I had a friend who wanted rim shots during the vows of her second marriage. Does anyone else wonder if we're going to run into Max (the vampire who scares Stefan)?
has: Oh the prospective M-I-L butts in too ;D
CarolKat: Mom was gone for my second as was my Dad, My oldest son gave me away.
CarolKat: MIL had no say whatsoever. Mike and I paid for everything including the rooms for them to stay in.
has: I think that was foreshadowing for the return of gauntlet vampire - when Mercy mentioned fae and vamps that is who I thought of
Zealith: I hope not Janilee. If we meed an outside scary vampire I'd rather we see the one with the guanlets again.
CarolKat: Please no MAX! That would be too much.
Janilee: You never know who is pulling whose strings!
Patti: I can't believe they'd go into that detail if Patty wasn't going to use him.
Janilee: It could be foreshadowing for the next book as well!
CarolKat: Oh CRAP!
Patti: It could, but she doesn't tend to plot that far ahead.
CarolKat: I didn't see that coming
has: I think the Max thing was a fun joke- with the movie - I actually Wikied him and he was a character actor in Germany and the Shadow of the vamp movie was mostly made up :D
has: But I don't think we will see Max - probably Master of Night and Milan. We've had several mentions of him and the fact that marsillia wants to go back he will probably feature in some ways
Janilee: I believe that Patty or Mike said Stefan was to be only a side character in this book. I can't believe there is a Mercy vampire story where Stefan would be missing.
has: I think hes going to bookend the book? will appear at the end hopefully he will be much better and the next book will def be vamp centred in some ways
Patti: Yes, I could see the Stefan situation bookending the main plot.
Janilee: Good possibility.
Zealith: Besides, I think they mentioned that this book would be about the walkers.
Janilee: Can you see Anna and Charles needing to go to Milan?
has: I think we will learn about why the walkers hate the vamps and vise versa tho
Mikel: this is more interesting then the argument with some troll about top speed and how his bike isn't working right
Patti: Remember that's relative; a lot of people carped about how little Samuel there was in SB, even though it's "his" book.
has: I could see that happening! LOL Wycked
Janilee: Probably. Finding ghosts can't be the only trick the walkers used against the vampires.
Patti: Glad we're better than the troll, Wycked.  Remember to not feed the trolls  <)))><
Janilee: They do seem to feed themselves quite well.
has: I was happy with that about Sam - it was the sudden reappearance of Ari & their past which didn't really work out but thats because not enough time was on it and because it would be a disservice to focus away from Mercy's story so people will carp about that if that happened also it would be odd because its in her POV
Mikel: this troll needs to be fed napalm
Varg: Interesting! It is too bad that net trolls do not turn to stone in the sun like the real ones do.
Patti: Well, keep it off yourself is all I can say.
Janilee: Do net trolls see the sun or do they live in their mother's basement?
has: I have mute button for trolls and also feed them spam would shut them out
Varg: Probably they live in their mothers basement.
Varg: How do you get a mute button?
Janilee: Could you insult the seethe vampires by saying they still live with their mother?
Patti: I'd be interested in seeing if Mercy's Dad's ghost is there to help her, and if he'll do anything to put her in touch with his side of her family.
CarolKat: I am out guys I need to get stuff ready for tomorrow!  XOXO
Patti: That's SOP for vamps.  Night, Carol!
Janilee: Good night CarolKat! Would Mercy's father's ghost recognize her? He died before he knew she was conceived.
has: ignore button or just freeze them out :D NIte Carol!!! HUGS
Varg: Night CK.
has: I think he knew who she was from that excerpt
Varg: But presumably he has a greater view and knowledge from beyond the physical?
Varg: maybe
Janilee: Perhaps. The snippet was too short for me to tell. Remember when Mercy says that ghosts are mostly just some memories the person had in life.
has: I think he was more than a ghost- it felt like that
Varg: it felt very much like more than a ghost.
Varg: Only question is what.
Patti: Well, different kinds of ghosts.  This one is self aware.
Varg: Yup. And surprisingly substantial. maybe the dancing was about bringing himself into our "realm"?
has: He felt like he was guiding her in some way?
Mikel: this one is a self professed engineer, with wife and child but refuses to provide real world empirical data rather then paper data.
has: warning maybe
Varg: Ancestors can be spirit guides.
Zealith: Maybe. I'm going to head off too you guys. See you later.
Patti: That's an interesting idea, Varg.  So long, Z.
Janilee: That self-awareness could mean he knows Mercy. The snippet was just tooo short altogether! Good night Zealith.
Varg: Night Z.
has: Nite Z!
Janilee: The spirit guide stuff would have been useful at other times in her life.
Mikel: pretty well wore out tonight and brain is not wanting to get into these speculations so I am going to call it a night, be safe all!
Varg: yes, but there is a question of context too.Maybe it was not possible until the situation or even place she is in now.
Patti: Night, Wycked.
Janilee: Good might Mikel. Be safe yourself.
Varg: Night Wycked.
Patti: There can be all kinds of reasons, depending on both the rules for Patty's world building, and the personality involved.
has: Nite Wycked!!! :D
Janilee: Until she had started to exercise her walker skills perhaps?
Varg: That would be a good reason.
Patti: And/or come somewhere sacred?
has: I think its def that Janilee- it seems that she in discovering new abiltiies
Varg: Yes. the place might have triggered it too. Or her travels there.
Patti: Do you realize we've been at this for 3 hours?
Janilee: I came to it late!
Varg: Wow! it does not feel that long.
has: I missed the main bulk LOL
Patti: Aw, well, if we're going to be precise, I've been here that long, others popped in & out or arrived later.  Varg, how late is it for you?
has: def late its almost 2 at my end
Varg: It is about to be 3 am here :)
has: People are up for the golden globes but Im feeling meh on it - not even the fashion fail is making me want to semi watch it :D
Janilee: You going to bother to go to sleep at all?
Varg: Sleep? Heh, yes I will probably sleep in quite a bit too.
has: I will - probably around 3
Patti: Golden Globes, don't care.
has: I slept around 8 and woke up at midnight :P
has: my inner clock is screwy
Varg: Golden globes, Had no idea that was today....
Patti: I'm planning on being in bed in about 4 hours, get up & go to start training for tax prep.
Varg: heh, smart.
Varg: both of you....
Janilee: According to the news Christian Bale won the first pise so far.
Patti: First pise?
has: prize :D
Janilee: That should be prize.
Varg: <)))>>< ?
has: I missed the fashion parade - thats the best bit
Janilee: This misspelling inno way reflects my feelings about the Golden Globe Awards! LOL
Patti: Fish to feed troll.
Varg: LOl the fashion parade is the only bit for those things that is any fun. the rest is usually meh.
Janilee: No, I did not mean fish or Pisces!
Varg: Could not help myself, it is the middle of the night and I have had red wine.7
has: LOL It does abut the misspelling
has: LMAO at Varg - I had spring rolls and orange juice for a midnight snack :D
Varg: I had some raspberries and sour cream, for my midnight snack.
Patti: I'm cooking rice to mix with tuna & frozen veg for dinner.
Janilee: I still think Mercy should embrace the circus that will soon be her wedding.
has: mmm nice - U know what I really loved about the excerpt - how the pack felt towards her well Darryl loved that phonecall and indigestion med
has: I think her wedding will probably be a circus in more ways than one :D
Janilee: Now. think about the food needed to keep werewolves from being hungry.
Janilee: Imagine the caterer serving dainty portions.
Elle joined the chat
Elle: hola everyone :)
Janilee: Hello Elle.
has: WB!!!! :D
Elle: Janilee...all I saw was embrace the circus
Elle: missed the rest. lol...it frightened me. :D
has: They should have a BBQ - Proteinfest - cant go wrong with that
Janilee: Roast oxen on spits
Elle: are you talking wedding dinners?
Patti: Yes, or the reception.  Roast ox sounds like a good idea.
Janilee: Elle, I was just suggesting Mercy embrace the circus that will be her wedding. Then we started discussiong wedding catering for werewolves.
Elle: has, just readign upthread. I loved your comment about the phonecall and the pack's feelings to mercy as well
has: Yup- wedding arrangements it keeps going back to Margi's Momzilla role
has: Yes - I think they really accept Mercy now from that scene
Elle: i think so too, i got that feeling from it. sweet in it's way.
has: The way that Mercy said she would have preferred it when they wanted her dead - instead of fretting over her
Elle: I'd def go BBQ as well. gotta keep the wolves happy
Patti: Werewolf control freaks, "fragile" walker...
Janilee: Being in the NW they could probably do the very large salmon.
has: I think that missing month must have showed the ones who disliked her that a pack without Mercy and therefore an unstable alpha isn't a good thing
Patti: Yeah.
Janilee: Yep that might have given some of them a clue.
has: I'm thinking huge steaks, sausages and burgers - fish might not be as attractive especially with a river monster
Elle: it'll be nice to read it...see what they're all up too
Janilee: Now they'll all want to wrap her in cottonwool and stick her under glass. Rivermonster might make a difference in the salmon.
Elle: I liked how they wanted to protect her...but i dont' think they really know her yet because she doesnt' want that
has: I think that will always be a factor though - I don't think that will ever go away
Patti: She mentioned previously a few times that she didn't know all the wolves in the pack, so it follows that they don't know her.  Even six months later, they might not.
Patti: After all, Adam is out, but not most of the others in this pack, they may have to be discrete about going to Adam's house for the Moon hunts.
Patti: That may be about the only times she & they meet each other.
Janilee: With her just being female there will be a protective streak. I wonder if the pack bond helps make people know one another better?
Elle: I think she would know them all now but that's just a guess
has: I agree- from the sounds of that excerpt she was busy with other things and shes an alpha's mate now so she would have to know the pack well
Patti: By name & face, as well as scent, coat, to speak to, sure, but how much more, what about personalities?
has: I like how she's starting to gain Adam's abilities - did you notice about commanding Stefan to Look?
Varg: I sort of assumed the pack bonds helped with the knowing people part.
Elle: yes! so interesting!
Janilee: Rank would have to be part of it. That should include some personality.
Patti: Yes.  And useful to keep the other wolves from steamrolling over her.
has: I think Mercy will try to suss out their personalities- I dont think she would want to have another situation like with Mary Jo
Varg: Yes, borrowing rank and alphaness from her Adam would be useful sometimes.
Elle: I love when she brings what she learned from Bran into the mix.
Janilee: Wonder if Stefan has noticed the power behind her? Or has he pulled out from his funk enogh yet?
has: And the Bran factor is going to be so useful  ;D
Varg: Heh, some of what she learned from Bran is a degree of ruthlessness in protecting what is hers.
has: I think Stefan knows - and I loved how she literally gave him a kick up the backside
Janilee: Living her early childhood with the most psychotic wolves in the US should have helped train her in power struggles.
Janilee: I hadn't thought of how that would shape her thought processes until I read it.
Varg: Also given her tools to deal with most of the wolves she meets.
has: Do you think that Stefan will cut close loyalty ties with Marsillia considering how he was
Elle: definitely a assest to her
has: def - I like how she will be using her wits and not strength when dealing with the weres
Elle: I think he will, Has
Elle: the time has come for it
Janilee: I do not believe that Stefan will break his word to Marsilla no matter how much she deserves it. If she leaves for Milan he might have an excuse to remain behind.
Patti: It has to happen eventually if a Vamp is powerful enough, or they'd still all be one Seethe, right?
has: I think so too - I think things are heading to a point where Stefan has to choose between marsillia and Mercy
Elle: it's a hard call if Stefan would break his oath. he lasted so far...but I hope that he treats marsilia different
has: And I think Gauntlet vamp is def up to something - his vampires made a play for Marsillia for a reason
Patti: Oh, yeah, there are vamp politics going on, all right.
Varg: I think his oath is wearing thin, or more like Marsilias end of that bargain is not kept.
has: Much cooler but she's def broken any ties of love with him I think
Janilee: I'm thinking of the potential outing of the vampires and how they would strategically best deal with tha. would smaller seethes survie better than larger ones?
Elle: has! I never really thought about it from that perspective
Elle: do you think they made the play with a push from gauntlets?
Patti: Oh he was part of it, I have no doubt.
has: I think so - why did he appear in the first place? And why the Tri-cities as well? Everyone was worried about Blackwood but he was the real threat
Elle: he was summoned I think by Marsilia to witness her explusion of his two vampires. Stefan was the unbiased testimony
Janilee: Marsilla may have broken Stefan's ties of love, but that won't break his word of honor. If Marcilla is killed by the politics of vampires, Stefan would take the seethe in a new direction.
Elle: that would definitely shake things up if Stefan became master of the seether
Elle: or seethe
Elle: :D
has: I get the sense that Stefan will take over the Seethe- it seems to be heading that way and even though he oesnt want to - Some of the best leaders are the ones who are reluctant to lead
Varg: They are seething with back stabbing politics and power games .p
Elle: he
Elle: hehe
has: :D very fitting name LOL
Elle: I like the more straightforward werewolves.
Varg: It is.  Straightforward werewolves? Bran.....
Elle: relative to vampires. :D
Janilee: Wolf would be his biggest stake in Stefan taking over if Marcilla were to die. MAry Jo wasn't that straightforward either.
Janilee: You notice how the the werewolves and the vampires who were once human, bring all their human foibles along with them when they change?
has: I dont think Wolfe wants to take over though - I tihnk he likes to stay behind the shadows so to speak
has: YES but it either becomes warped or its emphasized more
Varg: Wolfe does not seem like someone who wants to lead
Elle: he's a strange one. not sure what he's trying to accomplish
Janilee: Would he be willing to back Stefan or does he have another candidate?
Varg: Yes :D but magnified over time.
Varg: Maybe he would want to go back to Milano if that became an option?
katy joined the chat
has: Hey Katy!
katy: Hi all!
Elle: hi katy :)
Janilee: Distilled essence of Machiavelli?  HEy katy!
has: He could be angling for a way to get back to Milan
Varg: Hi Katy!
Janilee: Possible! Wolf is a puzzle.
Patti: Hi, Katy.
katy: Wow, did I ever jump in at a strange point -- distilled essence of Machiavelli?
Varg: Wolf
Varg: If he were that janilee he would want to go to Paris .P
Janilee: The human essence of twisted politics within vampires.
Janilee: I've been to Paris.
Varg: Me too, saw no vampires though.    that I know.
has: LOL
Elle: heh
Janilee: Opps! Varg I read that wrong. He might be angling for Paris. I might have seen one when I was in the underground tunnels.
Varg: Oooh, catacombs!
Janilee: Yup! Just the place to be spooked.
Elle: I dont' know what Wulfe's motivation is...he's a strange one
katy: They seem like a natural spot for vampires to skulk about, don't they?
Varg: lol they doo. do we even know where Wulfe is form originally?
has: And they attract ghosts! The ones in Edinborough in Scotland are infamous
Janilee: Wulfe might just be at the point where survival is his motivation. No one seems to hVE THAT MUCH IDENTITY ON WULFE.
Janilee: Sorry about the all caps!
Patti: I seem to recall having read something recently about Wulfe's origin, he's not Marsilia's, and he's fairly old.
Varg: lol he seems very mysterious. The name sort of hints at germanic roots....
has: no worries - I hate the capslock key too - ranted about it on twitter :D
Varg: caps lock is placed wrong!
Janilee: First chapter of Rivermarked says he is the oldest vampire Stefan knows.
Elle: didnt' stefan say he was the oldest vampire he knew after the nosferatu vamp?
Elle: Janilee! jinx :D
Janilee: Wulfe's name does suggest germanic, but that covers a large part of Europe.
has: Yeah!
has: And he could adopted the name - bet many immortals/long lived beings change their names
Patti: They did wander, didn't they?
Varg: True, it does not narrow it down at all really....
Varg: The germanic tribes Patti?
Patti: Yes.
Varg: Not couch potatoes them.
Patti: Do you suppose there was much of anything going on in the Tri-Cities between SB & RM?  Six months, more or less...
Janilee: As far south as the southern Mediterranean. As far east as the Caucasus.
Elle: i wonder who's living in the trailer
has: Probably Mercy settling and adjusting into pack life - I want to know too!!!
Elle: maybe just settling in getting used to living with the pack
Elle: them getting used to having her around
Janilee: She's moved in with Adam.
has: Wonder how things are going with Sam - got a feeling that we wont see much of him in this book
Elle: has do you think so? we need at least a scene I hope
Patti: I don't think we will either.  Maybe Sam & Gabriel are living in the replacement trailer?
Elle: oh! and Sylvia
has: I think we will get a scene or 2 but it will def be a Sam lite book although I can be totally wrong
Varg: At least Gabriel in the trailer I think. not suer about Sam.
Janilee: Can you get a trailer replaced in six months when it has been tourched?
has: I hope Sylvia gets over it
Elle: do you think there is something to happen there?
Varg: hmm, depending on insurance can you not just buy a new one?
Elle: I hope she does too
has: I think so - u can buy a new one - since the last one was trashed mercy replaced it
has: she said she would
Varg: Sylvia seemed lika a very unflexible woman on certain things.
Elle: Mercy mentioned she had insurance on it
Janilee: We might see shades of romance at the wedding. In between the scenes with the dancing bear!
Varg: LOL Janilee! Are you expecting bear shifters to do weddings for a living?
'
Elle: I feel bad for Tony...unrequited love and all that
Patti: Yeah, but the insurance would be on the model she had, it wouldn't be much better than the one she had.  And I hope she included her possessions on her insurance, like computer, printer, fax, the gun safe, the guns, the silver ammo...
Varg: Books!
Janilee: Mercy might have insurance difficulties with the torched trailer. Or it might go as smoothly as silk. It's just that it isn't Mercu's style for things to go smoothly.
Patti: Don't get the impression she had a lot of books.
has: I know! And although Sylvia can be admired - she really is too stubborn for her own good and that is becoming a fault
Janilee: She could pay for replacement value on her homeowners insurance.
has: She has influential and angry weres who probably help her out ;D
Elle: I'm going to clear if that's okay with you all.

Elle cleared the room
Elle: seemed to be a bit laggy
Varg: blank page :D, well almost.
katy: uh-oh... did I scare everyone off?
Elle: no. lol
Varg: nope, Elle is just tidying
Patti: no, we're here.
has: no :D We clear the room time to time
Janilee: Sylvia might have gotten over her son growing up and making his own decisions. I'm not certain she will have gotten over the scare of her children palying with werewolves.
katy: Oh -- I think my page had frozen altogether -- I wasn't seeing anything since my last comment about vamps skulking in catacombs!
Varg: Then you were def frozen
Patti: Boy howdy, you sure were.
has: eeek
Janilee: playing. I can not type tonight. katy that does sound like a frozen page. We continued on for a bit.
katy: I thought it seemed like an odd "silence"!
has: that was def a gap
has: HUGS
Varg: you are here now!
katy: Yup, I'm back :)
Elle: that was a def lag for you. :D
Varg: So how long do you think Tony will love from a distance?
Elle: I hope he moves on
Janilee: Until Mercy kicks him in the pants!
katy: Ha... I've wondered that, too.
Elle: Sylvia won't go out with him at all...she's not one to budge
Janilee: Oh. I don't remember him asking.
Patti: Until either he gets ousted from police street work or until Sylvia does a 180 degree turn around.
katy: As long as they are coworkers, right?  What if one of them gets another job?
Elle: I can't see either of them changing jobs anytime soon
Patti: I think it's his position as a street cop that makes the difference.
katy: Yes, and he loves what he does.
has: I think she wont go out with him too - I don't know she's built a huge wall around her and unless it gets cracked she wont ever consider it - too much of a matyr in many ways
Varg: that was what I thought. I was wondering if it would not get old hat after a while,.
Patti: I see Bill's back. -- And Tony is very good at what he does.
Elle: she didnt' really give off any vibe other than friendship where he is totally into her
Janilee: She had reason to be nervous. Undercover cops have bad stats.
Varg: Yes, and one sided like that it might fade.
Patti: Come to think of it, what do we know about her first husband?  How old is she?  17 year old son... is she, like Marji, still younger than you'd expect?
katy: The girls all seem to be quite a bit younger than Gabriel
has: I think her husband may not have been a great father/hubby material
Elle: she's in her 40
Janilee: I thought her first husband was in police work as well.
katy: All I can recall knowing is that she is widowed
Elle: 40's about 10 years older than Mercy. 42ish? maybe
katy: but the youngest one is pretty little, so maybe not widowed for very long
Elle: don't know anything about her husband. I was wondering if he was a cop...but that didn't feel right
has: shes def wary isn't she
Elle: good point katy. i could only be a couple of years that he's been gone
Patti: The kids seem to be pretty much over his death, in any case.
Elle: they do.
Janilee: Nothing on her ID card on the board.
Elle: I'm rooting for Tony to find someone or date...not that we don't know if he is or not
katy: Yes, but kids are like that.  Unless we spend a lot of time among them, we may not hear them talk about him
has: hopefully we will get a tidbit about her in this book
Varg: She has not been seen much really, she just makes an impact. Mostly we have heard about her kids.
Janilee: I thought Tony said some things about her to Mercy in Moon Called.
has: Got a feeling things may not be as resolved with Gabriel and Mercy - maybe this is one of the reasons for Mercy was so caught up
Patti: Yes, but not a lot.
Patti: How do you mean, Has?
Elle: no Janilee...all pretty general about Sylvia. she's a mystery :D a little less of a mystery but still
has: dealing with pack, fallout from gabriel moving out and I bet Sylvia wasn't happy about that
Janilee: It might be almost losing Gabriel will pull her into life and to Tony or into pack life.
has: its going to take a weeks if not months to deal with that also working to catch up from her missing month
Elle: that was a huge step for Gabriel to move out. I'm def curious to see where they are after 6months
Elle: do you think Sam and Ari are living together?
has: in 6 months and the way Sam is? Oh DEF :D
Janilee: She did semm interessted.
Elle: I think so too, Has. :D
Janilee: seem
has: If Sam teases Mercy about the wedding - I think she should stick her mum onto him ;D
Elle: that would be funny
has: :D I know! I can see that happening!
Varg: absolutely :D
Patti: Oh, look, Marji has a new career as a wedding planner?
katy: Butterflies !  I can just see all the wolves chasing them around
Janilee: Bran would agree!
Varg: lol wedding planner to werewolves and the fae and fantastic :D
has: buahahahaha the butterflies killed me
Elle: I love the idea of the butterflies. Interesting idea
Janilee: The gold balloons added their charm to the picture.
katy: I wonder if people really do that?  How on earth would you keep them alive and contained until the right moment
Varg: The web side has detailed instructions.
Varg: web page
Janilee: There are places that grow butterflies for just that purpose. I once read an article on the environmental arguments against the practice.
has: yeah and they ship them out a few days before the wedding - still cant believe that was real - I agree the environmental factors is insane
Elle: i read a list of instructions that they had for the release. at least 1/2 hr before dark so the butterflies could find a place to nest in
Varg: do they need feeding?
Janilee: I still think that all the rice we threw for so many years killing birds is a myth. Birds in Asai eat rice.
Elle: you have to wonder how many people do it if there are places growing them
katy: Maybe the place with the pigeons comes through at the last moment and it's a massacre -- the birds feast on the butterflies
Elle: katy, lol
has: LMAO
Varg: lol I still think swallows would be better for that
Janilee: They could send nector with the butterflies.
Patti: I don't think pigeons are natural butterfly predators.
has: the birds feed on the butterflies and the wolves feed on the birds - that would be fitting for a werewolf wedding
Janilee: Could you release fireflys for an evening wedding?
Patti: Possibly you could feed the butterflies on sugar water, like bees or hummingbirds.
katy: Now that sounds lovely!
Patti: Sad to do it to them in an environment they're not suited for, though.
Varg: Someone could engineer wedding fire flies....
Patti: Patty & Mike may be on their way home now from RustyCon
Janilee: True. But they do it to the butterfies.
katy: you mean so they flash in the colors of the wedding?
Varg: O_o!
Janilee: Oh Dear! I've started something!
katy: I can see it now... I'd like a swarm of royal blue and a swarm of mauve....
Patti: Shades of the Glorious (formerly butter) Bugs of the Vorkoverse.
Varg: Ok time for me to get some sleep. Have fun people.
has: Guys I am going to go - its past 3 and I am fading again
has: lol :D
Elle: no doubt! xoxo
Janilee: Good night Varg and has! Sleep well.
has: Have a great chat! :D Really enjoyed it! nite nite xx
Elle: night guys!
katy: I should probably go, too.  It's not that late here, but for some reason my son is yodeling upstairs.  I should investigate.
Elle: ha
katy: I might make it back.
Patti: Good night, Varg, Has, Katy.
Janilee: It's when they're quiet that trouble happens.
Janilee: Good night if you don't make it back katy!

Elle: I'm gonna skip out too. I'll upload the transcript for tonight! Night all!
Patti: Any speculation what happened between the movie night & the riverside?
Patti: Oh, okay.  Night, Elle.
Janilee: Cool! Good night Elle.
Elle: :*
Janilee: Too much news about the wedding happened between movie night and the river camping.
Patti: So they decided to escape it, you mean?  Could be.  Do you suppose Zee is working the garage?
Janilee: Wedding present to Marcy?
Janilee: Mercy!
Patti: Hmm.  No clue; might it be a fae tradition?
Janilee: Yup! Gabriel might do some garage time for extra money for college.
Janilee: Tad could be home for the summer.
Patti: Or to pay rent at the trailer...
Janilee: That's when Tad meets the young girl werewolf Bran brings to the wedding to keep her away from his wife. They fall in love and start a new series.
Janilee: Paying rent for the trailer is good too.
Patti: Give the author a break!  LOL
Janilee: Just an idea! LOL
Patti: LOL yeah... we dream and speculate...
Patti: Do you suppose Leah really will pick on poor little Kyra?
Janilee: And Patty produces good solid books! I suspect Leah will torture anyone who takes her husband's attention. Kyria will certainly do that for at least a little while until she is settled.
Patti: I wonder how she's doing, too.  She'd be a good subject for a short story, don't you think?
Janilee: An excellent subject.
Patti: Maybe from the folks who gave us Moonlight & Mistletoe, something with teens & terror?
Janilee: Meeting the werewolves in her new home could be a short story, but I suspect something with more meat in it would be needed to get her personality across.
Janilee: Have Patty investigate the YA market?
Patti: Maybe some kind of boogieman problem as she/her family relocates to Aspen Creek?
Janilee: Perhaps.
Janilee: What kind of problem hasn't Bran faced recently?
Janilee: Some reporters trying to out Aspen Creek?
Patti: Getting Excaliber back to . . . someone else?  Issues with Leah?  Governmental pressure?
Janilee: Ghosts seem to be Mercy's territory. Anna's territory seems to be witches and werewolf politics.
Janilee: I'm liking reporters trying to infiltrate Aspen Creek High School and Kyria recognizing the type.
Patti: Since she has been raised by one or more, yeah...
Patti: Why would they try that, though?
Janilee: Mercy said that it was not a secret that someone was pulling the werewolves strings and Bran is trying to keep Aspen Creek as a safe haven if things go south for the werewolves.
Janilee: If someone figures out where the Marrock is and wants to expose the werewolf town.....
Patti: Exactly, so it should be very secret, government shouldn't know about it, let alone reporters.
Patti: Oh, how about religious zealots coming after them?
Janilee: Someone starts following the Alphas when they have their annual meeting? Zealots work!
Patti: Do you think they'd get away with that, with werewolf senses & paranoia?
Janilee: Not sure. But most secrets don't stay secret for long.
Patti: Even with long range stuff, like sattelites, bugging, telephoto lenses, I am dubious.
Janilee: With reporters I'd give it three years tops!
Patti: By then it's possible that Bran & Beckworth will have worked something out & do a controlled info dump.
Janilee: Triangulating where all the known Alphas planned to travel. Especially over a three year period. Beckworth would have incentive to protect his child.
Patti: She'll be about 16 then, prime photographic material.
Janilee: Werewolves tend to stay pretty.
Janilee: Explaining she's the alpha's until she marries could be tricky.
Patti: It could be danced around; "the alpha is in loco parentis until she reaches an age to make her own decisions, in his estimation."
Patti: After all, they don't keep the unmated females indefinitely for themselves, ordinarily.
Janilee: I could also see parents of dying children begging for the werewolf "cure." Bran could do the PR dance. But I'm sure he likes Adam as a stage between him and reporters.
Patti: Adam, Charles, David Christiansen, whomever.
Janilee: Honey's reaction suggests differently. So does Sage's reaction. I don't think we can count Adam's behavior as standard werewolf. Or even standard Alpha.
katy: Well, just a random episode of yodeling.  I think I can chat a few more minutes!
Janilee: Does this random yodeling happen often? LOL Glad to see you back.
katy: Occasionally -- it seems to be an arsenal in the older brother toolbox of annoyances for his younger sister
Janilee: My younger brother used breathing. <snort>
Patti: Huh.
Patti: Well, there were only a few alphas on the list of who to take her to.
katy: As for the parents of dying children idea -- we're told that people who are too sick don't usually survive the change
Janilee: It didn't take much. :)
katy: It doesn't take much here either, but yodeling is quicker than breathing in getting results
Janilee: True, but parents of sick children latch on to just about anything.
Janilee: Yes, just a small percentage wouldn't abuse a lone female child werewolf. Adam is an unusual alpha.
Patti: They aren't the only ones, but they do tend to be tenacious.
Janilee: So we have reporters with zealots to follow infiltrating Aspen Creek High School and Kyria saves the day? I like it as a short story.
katy: I have to wonder -- and I suppose that Samuel with his med training would have thought of this, but it's simple enough now to suppress the immune system.  Seems like the change might be accomplished more gently with modern technology?
katy: Increase the chances of survival?
Janilee: Take a bunch of steroids for a week before trying to turn?
katy: Yeah, or even irradiate the bone marrow & do a stem cell transplant
katy: Ok, that's not all that gentle, but better than being savaged by a werewolf to near death
Janilee: You sure it's not happening in government labs as we speak?
katy: Hahaha!  Could be...
Janilee: How to turn that into a rollicking short story?
Elle joined the chat
Elle: hey all. I forgot to save this last portion for the transcript. :D
Janilee: Hey Elle. Checking to see if we're finished?

Patti: I believe that was part of the research that was being done on Alan "Mac" before he escaped, wasn't it?
katy: I don't think so... I think that was all about how to get drugs into somebody who was already a werewolf, so they would work.
Janilee: Was there anything scientific about the experimenting done on Mac? I thought it was all a ruse to work the complicated werewolf political plot.
Patti: It was a combination of things; including Blackwood, remember?
Janilee: Forgot that part. Would make it rough for an IRB to approve of.
katy: Yes, I need to reread the part about Blackwood.  the part from Moon Called is clearest to me, in that they were using DMSO and silver to short-circuit the werewolf's resistance to drugs
katy: Yup, definitely more invasive than the "hair trimmings & fingernail clippings" they always seem to ask me about.  (No, I just want to give them a math test, thanks...)
Janilee: Did anyone leave any notes to work with?
katy: That's a good question.  It would almost have to have been Gerry if someone did.
Janilee: I had to tell them that the stuff I was looking through was over 400 years old and the families wouldn't mind for my IRB. Gerry might have taken good notes. His father would have taught him that. Paranoia might have made him destroy them.
Patti: There would be more than one location the tests were going on; Gerry probably had more than Leo working on it.
Janilee: True. Tracking the labs would have been Charles' job. He might have the notes.
Patti: And the guys in the black SUVs probably had more than one location too.
Janilee: Were they the sort to keep notes?
Patti: Did they want to be able to achieve the same results repeatedly?
katy: Well, I'd better go.  tomorrow is my last day before classes start, so I need to be productive!
katy: Good night all!
Patti: consistently, that's the word I wanted.  Yes, they did.  Night, Katy.
Janilee: That's were it being a ruse mixes up my ideas on the subject. Ddi they really want to achieve anything. Good night katy. Good luck with classes.
Patti: Different groups were invoved, with different goals.
Patti: Gerry wanted the excuse to depose Bran & save his father.
Patti: Leo wanted the money to keep his mate happy.
Janilee: Was triggering the fight between Bran and Gerry's father enough for Gerry. Did the tests mean anything or was abusing the wolves in the tests enough. With different groups having different goals finding who bothered to take notes might be difficult.
Patti: The people they were selling the turned wolves & drugs to wanted what was stated, wolves to experiment on & drugs to keep them in line.
Patti: Blackwood wanted things he could use against werewolves at need and money, as best I recall.
Janilee: So that group that wanted to control the werewolves would be the best target for finding that information.
Patti: Do you mean who the prying eyes might have gotten it from?
Patti: Maybe, but Blackwood's organization would be flailing a bit after he disappeared, and Bran's minions might not have caught all the loose ends there.
Janilee: Perhaps or for Sam to wok on making the werewolf transformations medically easier. Or even to keep it out of government hands.
Janilee: work not wok
Patti: Oh, they'd (the weres) definitely want to keep it out of Govt. hands.
Janilee: My speculator's spinning. This is fun, but I need to stop.
Patti: Yeah, we should wrap this up.  Night, Janilee!  At least chat-wise.
Janilee: Good night Patti!
