Anne McCaffrey
« on: July 29, 2007, 10:41:57 am »
When I first moved to the Tr-Cities in 1977, I discovered Anne McCaffery and my life got more interesting.  I felt all alone just moving here and she gave me a book about dragons who would remain your best friend forever.  I felt less lonely after that...they have been my best friends since then. ;D

EDIT: corrected spelling of author's name.

Dragonflight is the very first one.  Then Dragonquest and the White Dragon.  Then you have the Harper series which are very important to read after Dragonquest.  Dragonsong, Dragonsinger...the books will list them in order.. ;)

I also love the Crystal Singer series.  Her other books are good too.  My favorites are the Dragonrider books.

I think they get better the more you read them.  Cole, read the Harper series next.  Then continue on from there in the order in which they were written.  They jumpt bakc and forth in the planets timeline.

My favorites in the DRoP series is the first one, and really, all the ones that take place before AVIS. I really like her Talent series too... though the titles escape me at the moment.

I've read nearly all of her dragon books, as well as some of her futuristic space books...And although I love dragons, and loved the mini dragons in her books, I ...LOATHE her female characters.  They wind up being total bitches and/or completely dependent on males for their happiness.  I swear, there isn't a single main female characters that I haven't wanted to slap silly.  Her books have interesting ideas, but I cant' bring myself to read them again.

For the first two Harper Halls Mellony (Or what ever her name is) was all right.
