Someone needed to point the original ignorant poster, who didn't believe in sword-wielding females, at a video Ilona Andrews posted awhile back. It was of a Russian double-sword wielding young woman. Most impressive.

And perhaps the various women pirates known to history.

And the female samurai whose photos exist from the 1800s.  And that Frenchwoman who dueled around Europe seducing various married women in... was it the 1500s?  Up to 1700s? I've been seeing articles about her cropping up recently.

It does. I've had many recommendations for Circe from friends, and intend to read it when it's available more cheaply (kind of embarrassing, but there it is).

I would put Martha Wells' Raksura series in with those. It was mentioned in the previous post about couples. I had just finished reading the first book in the series, The Cloud Roads, when Patti posted that. The writing and world building are excellent. There are no humans; there are a bunch of non-mammalian races, with non-mammalian societies and cultures. It's fascinating reading.

This list is skewed toward certain publishers, and completely misses the Young Wizards & Cat Wizard series by Diane Duane, but it's got some nice recommendations even so.
