For those of you who couldn't make the chat tonight, this is the transcript. I've cleaned it up a bit to try and get the questions and answers together. Anything that's  bolded is a response of Patty's. Enjoy! :)

Why couldn't Medea be used to find Mercy during the month she was missing?
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:02 Patti L.
8:02

Patricia Briggs:
Patti L -- Hi there :) That's a very good question. Medea loves Mercy -- and she loves the person who is petting her, too. She does not consider herself as belonging to Mercy only

Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:02 Robin

Patricia Briggs:
Hi everyone (Waves)
Robin -- Not Mercy. Don't make me the protagonist of an urban fantasy series -- that would really suck. Though it would be cool to turn myself into a coyote once in a while. Maybe one of the fae.

Patricia Briggs:
Hmm. Tala, I don't know if we'll learn more about Ben, I'm still in the planning stage. I didn't think Stefan would even get to be in this one, but it's looking like he might be (or else the scene I just wrote is going to be in the next book). We'll certainly see more about Ben in the book after that.

Patricia Briggs:
Has (and hello ) Actually I know more about what's going on in the next Alpha and Omega book than I do in River Marked -- even though I'm not writing it until later. The next A&O book has been lurking for a while.

Will we get to see more of Samuel and Ariana in River Marked?
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:09 CarolKat
8:09

Patricia Briggs:
CarolKat -- I haven't talked this over with my agent or my editor, but I think that Samuel needs his own story. A romance told from Mercy's point of view is so . . . awkward. She's just not the voyeur type, you know? I don't know if it will be a short story or a novel yet, but I'll make sure when that's decided it'll go up on my website.

Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:09 Candace

Candace, Yes. River Marked is the Walker book. Mercy is not as alone as she thinks she is . . .

[Comment From Australian Emm : ]
Hello! Will we gain any further insight into Bran's (and Samuel's) past? Understanding that keeping readers guessing is important, but will there be anything more about Bran's mother...
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:10 Australian Emm
8:11

Patricia Briggs:
Australian Emm -- One of the great joys of writing this series is finding out little bits and pieces of Bran's (and Samuel's) past. I do know all about them, but it amuses me when things just pop out.

[Comment From Toyasumi : ]
will we find out more about "Yo-Yo Girl?"
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:11 Toyasumi
8:11

Patricia Briggs:
Toyasumi -- I didn't expect Yo Yo Girl to make an appearance in Silver Borne until she did (some people plan their books . . . I enjoy surprising myself too much). But yes, I expect that Yo Yo Girl will absolutely make it into another book, she's nicely creapy, my favorite kind of character.

Hey pat! Just wanted to tell you how much i love your work! I am especially fond of your Raven books! I became totally immersed in those books ;)
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:13 sam
8:13

Patricia Briggs:
Sam -- Thank you! The Raven books came out right before the Mercy books and somehow I think people forget about them. I really, really enjoyed them, too. Someday I intend to revisit that world.
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:29 Patricia Briggs
8:30

Patricia Briggs:
John -- I didn't see your question until I posted for Has's -- which was the same question. Great minds think alike :)
Katherine -- there wasn't a single inspiration behind Mercy. She started as a series of decisions -- that she would be a coyote shapeshifter which meant she'd be Native American. That she would be a mechanic. That she would be in her thirties . . . and when I started writing her story, her voice popped into my head and so far (crosses fingers) hasn't left me.

Will we ever find out more about Samuel and his new love interest?
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:15 emily

[Comment From  Pheodora : ]
Is your writing an all-consuming profession?
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:16 Pheodora
8:16

Patricia Briggs:
Pheodora -- Writing is an all consuming profession, in that the writer never gets left behind -- and if the book is late, life at home comes to a standstill until its done, yes. But it is not like being a doctor -- because mostly it is great fun to be a writer. I take notes wherever I go to remember quirky phrases or odd looking people and use them wherever they fit in the stories. The success of the Mercy books have made my schedule occasionally hairy But I get to take time off when I need it, too.

[Comment From Scott : ]
Are the Mercy books a different world than the Alpha/Omega books? Do they need to be read together or can they be read seperately?
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:16 Scott
8:17

Patricia Briggs:
Scott.
Both series are set in the same world and have some interchanging characters. You can read each series separately. However, I do recommend beginning the Alpha and Omega series with "Alpha and Omega" a novella that appeared in the anthology (still in print) On the Prowl.
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:28 Patricia Briggs
8:28

Patricia Briggs:
Shamain -- I didn't think I'd have Stefan in River Marked, but I've just written a scene with him. It is a stand alone scene which might be the beginning of River Marked -- or might end up in the book following -- in which Stefan definitely makes an appearance.
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:17 Patricia Briggs

[Comment From gryphon340 : ]
will Sage now become model?
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:19 gryphon340
8:21

Patricia Briggs:
Gryphon -- I don't know Sage as well as I do some of the other characters. But I have the impression that she was once a model. I'll have to find out how she makes a living now -- which is kind of unusual for me with a character i've used as much as I've used Sage.

Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:24 gryphon340

Patricia Briggs:
Gryphon. Yes. I'm not sure how much more we'll find out about the murder of Mercy's father, but we'll certainly find out more about his life.

Is Angus going to find his mate? And, are we going to get any more insights into Bran's relationship with Leah?
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:25 Spav
8:26

Patricia Briggs:
Spav. Bless you for enjoying Angus. I don't know if he'll be showing up again as a character. It certainly wouldn't surprise me. I'm sure a mate is out there waiting for him somewhere -- it might not be something that'll ever make it to my stories. Yes, there will be more about Bran and Leah.

Have you thought about Jesse's future? like if she's going to stay human or try the Change like her father?
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:26 Tala
8:26

Patricia Briggs:
Tala -- I don't see Adam happy about Jesse becoming a werewolf. It isn't on Jesse's agenda either, so if it happens it won't be because she decides she wants to be a werewolf.

Do you think we'll ever learn more about the Lord of Night and his werewolf mistress? (I'm guessing she's a submissive.) I'd think that the werewolves going public would have repercussions in Milan.
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:28 Carradee
8:29

Patricia Briggs:
Carradee -- I know all about the Lord of Night but I'll only pull him out if he becomes useful to the stories. I think the book after River Marked is going to be a Big Vampire book --- unless something else jumps out at me first. There are nasty things going on in the vampire world . . .

Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:30 rynn

Patricia Briggs:
Rynn -- All I can tell you is that it took us a year and a half and two lawyers to hammer out a contract -- and they are serious enough that what they paid me for the rights paid off my very expensive (and wonderful) Hollywood contracts lawyer. The production company who has the rights just produced The Prince of Persia -- which I am, for many reasons, very anxious to see.

However, at this point nothing is certain.

I'm curious about where the inspiration for Mercy came from-and why a mechanic? Was it just there when you thought of Mercy?
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:32 shilohwalker
8:33

Patricia Briggs:
Shiloh, I knew when I was planning the series, that I wanted Mercy to have a job that was very hands on, something that would drag her out of the supernatural and into the real world. While I was trying to figure out what that would be, I looked out my back window at the two Opel GT's that my husband was trying to rebuild into one functioning car -- and realized that I had fifteen years of VW mechanicking stories in my head. I'm not a mechanic -- but I ran tools for my husband as he kept our cars on the road. And we had the best VW mechanic . . .

Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:34 Toyasumi
8:36

Patricia Briggs:
Toasumi -- Yes. As we speak we are busily working on Moon Called and Cry Wolf comics. I'll make sure and let everyone know when they are coming out on my website. Some really beautiful work taking place! As for the differences . . . some honest mess ups on my end, a few wouldn't it have been better ifs -- and some things work better in graphic presentations than others.

Can Bran or Ben get their own books or short stories or atleast a happy ending like Sam finding Ariana?
Wednesday May 12, 2010 8:45 jena

Jena -- Bran probably won't get his own book -- half of the fun of Bran is what people don't know about him and his own book would spoil that. He might get a short story of his own, though. Ben might get a short story, too. He's not ready for a happy-every-after relationship yet -- he needs to find a way to be a little healthier person before that happens.

Patricia Briggs:
CarolKat -- I cannot work on two books at the same time. I just can't deal with that many voices in my head Seriously though, a lot of writing for me is remembering what I've done earlier in the book. I can't keep more than one book in my head at a time -- and notes are too clumsy and time consuming.

Patricia Briggs:
Leilani -- I assume you're asking about the model for Mercy? Daniel dos Santos is awesome -- I am so lucky they picked him for the first Mercy book, and that we've been able to keep him. I don't know who the model is, though I do know it is the same one for all the books.

Hi Patricia I LOve ur books! how involved r u in the graphic novel adaptations? Is it a lot of work for u, or do the comic guys do it all?

Patricia Briggs:
Veronica -- I oversee the comics, but I have a terrific writer -- David Lawrence -- whom I trust. And I have three awesome people plucked from my forums who help keep things right and do a much better job than I do. I'm inclined to say, ooo pretty -- and not notice that Adam's eye color is wrong.

Veronica -- Daniel did the cover for Homecoming the graphic novel version of the comics. I don't think he's planning to continue, though.

Thanks!  I was there but I didn't keep a copy!  Is it okay to discuss here or should we take pieces of information to various forums?

Thanks so much for posting this! I haven't been home at all this week so couldn't chat. :( (even if the chat had supported dial up, which I sort of doubt.)

And now I'm even more excited about Silver Borner since I know we learn Mercy & Anna have met, because I've been totally wanting that to happen. hehe! (was going to wait til it came out in paperback, but may have to splurge on the hardcover...hm, I got a 1/3 off coupon from Borders...)
