James Rollins
« on: May 11, 2010, 05:31:52 pm »
A friend gave me a stack of his books quite a while ago. I've only now started reading them and have basically been reading them non-stop for a couple of weeks. I've only read the stand alone novels so far, how to describe them? Rollins describes them as scientific/adventure thrillers. They're really interesting and I've been enjoying them quite a bit. He's written a series as well called the Sigma series which I think is a kind of military/spy adventure-based thriller and started a young adult series as well.

His website is here: James Rollins

Of the ones that I've read so far I recommend:

Quote
Subterranean

In the debut novel by James Rollins, travel to the bottom of the earth to a place you never dreamed existed. Beneath the ice a hand-picked team of specialist makes its way toward the center of the world. They are not the first to venture into this magnificent subterranean labyrinth. Those they follow did not return.

Quote
Deep Fathom

Solar flares have triggered a series of gargantuan natural disasters. Earthquakes and hellfire rock the globe. The death toll rises at an unimaginable rate. And in the midst of chaos, Air Force One and America's president have vanished from the skies.

Quote
Ice Hunt

...And now, as scientists, soldiers, intelligence operatives, and unsuspecting civilians are drawn into Grendel's lethal vortex, the most extreme measures possible will be undertaken to protect its dark mysteries - because the terrible truths locked behind submerged walls of ice and steel could end human life on Earth.

I'm just getting started on:

Quote
Altar of Eden

New Orleans veterinarian, Dr. Lorna Polk, stumbles upon an exotic animal smuggling ring, only to discover something disturbing about the animals: genetic abnormalities that defy nature. She must discover who committed these atrocities and why...and more importantly how to stop them.

Has anyone else read his books?

Elle,

You may have read a few other books by James Rollins aka James Clemens.  I like both sides of his writing and only found the connection when reading his blog.

MaryW, I actually didn't know he wrote under another name! That opens up a whole new stack of books that I can read. :D Thanks! I'll go and have a look at them.

CK, you'd like them. :D

If I could just recommend one, I'd say look for Subterranean.
