My list is in a general order of preference "goodness" :), if that helps. Start looking for the authors closer to the top of the list. And check out www.paperbackswap.com so you don't have to buy - just swap a new book for one you're willing to give up.

I just created a listmania list of "the best urban fantasy series" on Amazon. I'm "Cerulean" there, too. If you're interested in seeing some of the books by the authors I listed here, check it out.

Cerulean! I love your list. You have great taste (very similar to my own). There are two series on there I am going to check out that I have yet to pick up. Thanks for sharing.

karen chance
carrie vaughn

some of these maybe considered paranormal romance...but its pretty much the same
i generally do not read many male authors... i believe david weber is about the only one i read consistantly

That's so funny, tmpinsty, I find I read almost exclusively female authors. And a lot of my favorite books have heroines and not heroes. I think urban fantasy has been an amazing vehicle for female authors.

Celeber, which two series are you checking out? I'm curious ;)

I do not read exclusively female authors, but I am often disappointed by male authors, they rarely get re-read and I do not have any that I can think of other than Pratchett that I actively seek out ???

I'm now bound to go away and think, oh but I forgot '....' as I have already thought of James H Schmitz :D

Cerulean - The two that interested me were Wen Spencer and Naomi Novik. I will be checking into them soon. There are a few books coming out in the next few weeks that are going to suck up my time though.
