Title: Joshua Wachter - One of our own
Post by: CarolKat on August 25, 2012, 10:13:31 am
I just finished reading Admiral Who? An enjoyable read.  :)
A bit about the book:
An honorary Admiral, Governor, Prince - Cadet.  Gets abandoned on board ship by all the significant personnel aboard. Once he somewhat establishes he right to command, the book leads us through several adventures, tentative friendships, and surprising loyalties.
A wonderful story with a few editorial errors that made some things difficult, but given it is a first novel I can excuse.  I saw the writing mature the further along in the book I read.
A nice preview of the next book in this series shows the character maturing and the writing progress.

Well Done, Josh!

Could you give us a little more about the setting?  Is it a space ship he's left on?  What kind of reasoning is there for it?  Is it the first of a series?  How old is the title character?

Sure, I wasn't sure how much to say.
In this First Novel in the Spineward Sector series: The first Chapter gives a good overview of the main character.  I don't know if you can read a few chapters first on Amazon or not. But I was hooked.

We are in space.
Our Vice Admiral/Prince is a college student studying Colonial Administration and is on board as
"a face saving piece of interstellar politics between my homeworld Capria and our good friends from the Empire."
He is also fulfilling a requirement for his degree.

They are patrolling the Spineward Sector for pirates and other such disturbances along the borders of the Confederated Empire. When the Imperial Fleet gets orders to part ways with the Confederation to give support to another front in another alliance. They take all their equipment and their men as well as a few others along with them. Leaving the no real space experience - Admiral/Governor/Prince with no experienced crew and only obsolete equipment in their stead.

A delightful read, action packed and splattered with humor.

Oh... maybe I'll have to spend some of my Amazon card on it.  Elements in common with the Weber/Ringo "Prince Roger/March" series.

Well, I can try it, & find out.  If it works (or I may have a second e-book reader software) great, if it doesn't, I look for the cloud thing.

The brother and I sure yucked it up when we went through and edited the Who?.

Its nice to see that others liked the humorous slant in there.

As for amazon, you don't even need to have their kindle for pc free software to read the first 10% for free.  Just click on the image I think.

Hopefully the 2nd book when it gets out there, does even half so well.  When you're under the 2.99 you're at the 35% royalties option.  While with the 2.99 and higher your at the 70%.  So the second book will be the money maker if there's any money to be made.  But it'd sure be nice to dream about being able to quite the day job and go back to live with the family full time in the philippines.

have a blast,

The Deposed King

P.S. - FYI the Spineward Sectors are actually 7 or 8 sectors depending on where you place the 28th provisional.  So the Adventures of the Little Admiral aren't going to be limited to just one sector.  hahahahah.  If Jason has anything to say about it the Imperials are going to rue the day they abandoned this particular section of the old Confederacy.  Of course... he has to survive long enough to have any say in what happens going in the future. 8)

Book 3 Admiral's Tribulation is now up on Amazon.

here's a copy of the product description -

Spineward Sectors Series Book Three: Admiral's Tribulation

Admiral Jason Montagne and the crew of the Lucky Clover are back just in time for another family reunion. The last one was with the Vekna side of his family, but now he has to catch up with an an old school Montagne... the kind that gives other Montagnes a bad name, and makes Jason's relationship with Cousin Bethany seem all warm and fuzzy, by comparison.

Childhood fantasies will be crushed.

An aura of invincibility will be tested.

It's anyone’s guess if the Little Admiral can pull another rabbit out of his hat and put an end to the piracy that’s been plaguing the border of known space ever since the Empire withdrew.

Will the tables finally be turned? Will Jason find himself at the mercy of those he’s been thumbing his nose at for so long, or will his paranoia protect him from an honest-to-Murphy Admiral's Tribulation?

Discover all this and more in Book Three: Admiral's Tribulation

Hey Guys:  Admiral's Lady: Ashes for Ashes, Blood for Blood is going live in a few hours!

I just uploaded Ashes for Ashes, Blood for Blood on Amazon.  This is novel length spin off novella set in my Spineward Sectors series and comes in at a cool 74k words.  While this is only about half the size of mainline book in my series, it is still a standard sized novel going by the book size of the competition and twice the size of the last Admiral's Lady book.

This is the story of just exactly what happened after Jason Montagne was captured by his enemies and then thrown in durance vile and Akantha of Messene, his wife waltzed off screen.  For all of you interested in finding out just what exactly happened to her and the Phoenix while Jason off was busting himself out of prison and setting the stage for his revenge, read this book.  All I'll say is that this is no PR tour.  Akantha has a name for her pain and it is King James.

I hope you like it!

Thank you for updating us.  Those "side" stories can be very gripping in themselves.

I just uploaded Admiral's Spine (was Admiral Invincible Part One) to amazon, so book 6 should be up and for purchase in less than 12 hours!

The Universe is really growing, my brother did a spin off novel following a side operation in sector 23 and 24 which just so happens to be the area the mainline books are going to be heading into!
