Title: Lamb necklace
Post by: Elle on April 14, 2009, 07:43:22 am
We used to have a thread about what we thought the lamb necklace might look like but it was culled in the last few board maintenance blocks. This was always a hard one to pin down. Feel free to bring in ideas or even links to sites that you think may be a good representation of the image. I found two.

The first is an amulet from around 1100 A.D. Found in Denmark, exact site unknown. The motif is a symbolic depiction of Christ as the Lamb of God:

(http://members.shaw.ca/jheller/hurog/231.gif)        (http://members.shaw.ca/jheller/hurog/231_3.jpg)

I always thought it would be a good one minus the cross. The lamb is very stylized though and you wouldn't initally know it was a lamb unless you asked the wearer what it was...even then it's kind of iffy, but I like it a lot. In my mind's eye it's the closest to what I think Mercy wears.

The second is based from a sheep petroglyph found in Moab, Utah:

I'm just a fan of petroglyhs so I thought this was a nice one to bring in. Clean simple lines.

I imagined something like this except smaller, a little more delicate and without the horns  :D

Couldn't find a good semplance but if you take the detail of the one on the left and add the pose of the one on the right to it, then give it a longer neck and hanging ears you get the idea. :)

ooohhh!  H~S, those are EXACTLY what I imagined it to look like.  Just a simple lamb, kind of like the last one, 3D, but pretty simple.  Awesome web searching!

Those last two are cute, but somehow... I guess I think of a religious symbol (barring such unusual ones as the Invisible Pink Unicorn and Spaghetti Monster) as more somber.  The one link has very realistic ones, to me, I like them, but since I think Mercy's is supposed to be stylized, I'd probably go with Gerd's choice as what I'm picturing for her.

Wait...you haven't seen this one! It kind of scares me a little.  ;D And it's the most expensive at $240 from Anomaly Jewelry (http://www.anomalyjewelry.com/html/detail.php)

This one is nice as well...very stylized. Only $12 @ Country Silver (http://www.countrysilver.com/shop/index.php?cat=Sheep) They also have a nice one on a concho.

I found a couple more lamb necklaces. These are pretty basic and nice.

$18
(http://thesilversteer.com/images/jewelry/PLambCharm.jpg)

$35
(http://thesilversteer.com/images/jewelry/MSculpturedLamb.jpg)

Both found at The Silver Steer Jewelry (http://thesilversteer.com/jewelry.html)

A couple more:

This one looks a bit too leopard-y to me. $20 at Badali Jewelry (http://www.badalijewelry.com/animal-elk_b.htm)

I'm not a fan of the gold but this is a nice one. All Web Jewelry (http://www.allwebjewelry.com/category_animal-charms-c251/14k-gold-lamb-charm-p55176.html) for $57

I like the movement on this one. Chains and Charms (http://www.chains-and-charms.com/charms/animals-pets/lamb.html) $17

This one is a lamb bead. What a great idea to just thread a chain through it!

$21 at Lux Earrings (http://www.luxearrings.com/animals-birds/sterlingsilvrefl-89.html)

I added that bead as well. Really, it's one of my favourites so far!

There are also these I found at Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/listing/32426675/pewter-sheep-stitch-markers-with-field) $2, more sheep than lamb though.

Oh, those are cute too; you could do a bracelet or necklace, lamb bead, one of those last charms, bead lamb, charm, repeat.  Maybe a main focus of a larger lamb, then back to beads & charms.

This is a cute bead as well. I really like the idea of them, much sturdier when being chased down by vamps and rogue werewolves!

My mom had a stuffed sheep as a kid (it's in her bedroom at Grandma's house) that looks EXACTLY like the scary lamb pendant.

That last one, I like for Mercy... none of these are quite what I imagine it to look like, I'll have to go searching.  I actually had a green glow-in-the-dark lamb charm thing when I was little, if I remember right; I picture Mercy's lamb to be a little bit more like that, except (when in non-vampire-repelling mode) silver and not glowing.

In my never ending quest to find a lamb necklace, I ran across this one on Etsy

Meadow Lamb Charm Necklace (http://www.etsy.com/listing/72508952/meadow-lamb-charm-necklace?ref=sr_gallery_37&ga_search_submit=&ga_search_query=lamb&ga_noautofacet=1&ga_page=7&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade%2Fjewelry)

Very attractive! 68USD seems a bit steep though.

Here's another, very different but attractive! At 28USD a nice deal.

Tiny silver lamb necklace (http://www.etsy.com/listing/70724268/tiny-silver-lamb-necklace)

Wow, I LOVE this one!  Looks like a one off and at 42USD a bit pricey but it's gorgeous!

The second & third necklaces look nice. I am not sure that any of the three are similar to Mercy's though. What would a "stylized lamb" look like any way?

In my never ending quest to find a lamb necklace, I ran across this one on Etsy

I've always thought the very first post in this thread has the closest to what I see Mercy wearing. Very stylized but it needs to be without the cross. You wouldn't know it was a lamb unless someone told you.

The rest are just fun lamb necklaces...because really, you can never have too many when you live in a town with vampires. ;)

Did you notice how you can't type in "Lamb pendant" any more without having to sift through an amount of twlight related merchandise?  9)

Not really jewellery, but pretty much what I would expect a lamb pendant to look:
http://www.produkt-suchmaschine.com/images/products/58_/villeroy-boch-farmers-ornaments-treats-treatei-mit-ornament-lamm-11-cm-id2961985.jpg

And this "Lamb" looks more like a "Ram" to me, but nicely stylized so:
http://www.polyvore.com/lamb_sheep_pendant/thing?id=491840

Edit:

Now that's where it is for me, not much stylizing going on here but I'm a pretty conservative type when it comes to jewellery:

Those are interesting ones, Gerd.  The ram one took a bit of peering to figure out, but it's a rather clever concept.  Either of the other two would strike me as very good for vampire repellant, and be attractive.

It goes back to Edward telling Bella: "And so the lion fell in love with the lamb..."

Gerd, I know! The twilight references are escaping me but they're everywhere when you look for lamb jewelry.

I'm guessing it's from the "so the lion lay down with the lamb... what a stupid lamb" line.

Pretty sure if Mercy had seen that sheep ring when she was little, we'd all be searching cross pendants instead. That's disturbing.

No, wait, I think I mixed up two quotes.  The right Twilight reference is: "So the lion fell in love with the lamb.  What a stupid lamb.  What a sick, masochistic lion."  (Lion=vampire; lamb=human girl).  "The lion lay down with the lamb" is from church... and so far as I know, is not a euphemism, but a symbol for peace on earth.

(http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/rr101/imbettinonalice/Things%20that%20I%20have%20made/lambnecklace.jpg) How's this for a lamb necklace!?

I always try to come up with a workable plan to make crafts to sell, but it probably isn't a reasonable expectation.  I get bored making the same thing over and over, and I love to make things to give away - when would I have time for that!? Once I finish the guitar, though, I do endeavor to make some things to sell.  My polymer sheep are adorable and easy to make.  *note to self* find photo of sheep to post...

Speaking of creepy, I'm not on board with this lamb charm, it looks vaguely evil:

This one looks like it's giving vamps the side eye:

The evil one looks positively zombie. LOL

The other might be giving the side eye, but the way it bents its front leg is definitely flirtatious. ;D

The first one is probably one of the evil sheep gods made from cottage cheese and black olives in "The Actual Letters" - in which the porn scenes are dedicated to me.  :D

Elle,
The first pendant has a mouth like a snake! It looks like it wants to unhinge its jaw and swallow me whole.
Don't think I would want to wear that around my neck as protection!

Not a necklace but a brooch and interesting:

Here's another one...which I like. Despite it's staring, staring eyes and bad toupée:

*looks at Elle suspiciously*  You're pulling our legs, right?
It's currently saying the first image isn't available, but the middle one looks right to me; stylized and meant for prayer.

I am laughing at the lamby!

Oh little grey wolf, post the hedgehog jewelry!
I have a hedgehog -- she is so cute that
jewelry should be made in her honor.

Yeah, I happened to think "What age Mercy are we talking here?"
At an young enough age I'm sure she would have found it droll (drôle, actually, my dictionary informs me).  LOL

I would like that cross one without the cross.

This is not stylized nor necklaces but it is jewellery with lambs:
