Post by: Damnd of Hell on September 20, 2008, 09:46:48 pm

Oh, "Man from Atlantis"!

Very bad, bad, bad BAD!!! shows.

Now you've got me wracking my brain.  I keep thinking there was a show, late 70s, early 80s about a well intentioned werewolf.

There was one when Fox was first started.  It lasted only two seasons or so.  I think called Werewolf.  Bad effects  but a good story.

One of the problems with these stories, is that there is no resalution.  They stop abruptly, and have no ending.  There's now a rule going around, that 'all' series must have an end story shot.  No matter if it's canceled after one show, or several years.   There will no longer be no resalutions to stories.   This way there won't be any excessive fan outrage over years.   Especially when the show caneled is in the top ratings.

Can't forget
Wolf Creek.
That's the show with that Werewolf Village?
Or was that Wolf Lake? I downloaded it, but didn't get round to watch it yet and after reading that it apparently ends with a cliffhanger I'm not sure if I should. :P

Quote
Oh, "Man from Atlantis"!
I loved that show, I hope it comes out on DVD some day.
But then I'm reliable to be to cheap to buy it eventhough I want it, just like with Bewitched. :D

Actually I can't think of a cancelled show that later became a fave of mine, I guess Firefly would if I ever got round to watch it. So far only saw the first two episodes and thought them to be much better than the movie was.

Surface comes to mind as a cancelled show, loved the first ep's because they reminded me of V-The Last Battle in their spirit, but that show got so lame later on that I was glad when it was over.

Oh I really liked Wolf Lake! It had great actors and it had a very sexy undertone. Thought it was brilliant and they canceled it! :(

Wolf Creek really grew on me (just in time for them to cancel it).  And Forever Knight is an old favorite. Loved that show.

I adored Man from Atlantis.

There was a British show, I don't know the name, and sadly only saw a couple of episodes, comedy/drama, like "Red Dwarf" where there were a pair of private eyes; one got killed, and the other was struggling to go on when he discovered he could (at least some times) see & speak with the ghost of his partner, who could do wicked surveillance, not being visible to those they watched.

"Randal and Hopkirk Deceased" is the one with the dead partner.  Have you seen the original with Kenneth Cope, or the more recent Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer remake? I like Red Dwarf too.

I'm afraid I don't have any idea who the actors were.  It's been at least a decade, if the timing helps you figure it out.

The remake was 2001, so it looks like you saw the original (and many feel better) version.

There's so many:
Seeing Pippi Longstockings mentioned, I was in absolute teen love with her friend Annika(?)
Emil i Lönneberget, loved that series!
Also Joan Landor from the Captain Future animated series.
Disney's Lady from "Lady and the Tramp," still got a soft spot for her.
Megan Follows as Jenny, I would have gladly traded my sister for her. Thinking about it, I still stand to that.
Angelika Meissner form the "Immenhof" movies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=LGhqURUMDQk. :-LOVE
Cinderella from Three wishes for Cinderella (Tri orísky pro Popelku)
Arabela from the same titled TV-Show (Die Märchenbraut in German)

Donna Troy Wonder Girl from the Teen Titans.
(Megan Fox as Donna, I could get used to that idea: http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs18/f/2007/217/4/d/Megan_Fox_as_Donna_Troy_by_sean_izaakse.jpg)
Yoko Tsuno, character from a comic series I'm still in love with: http://yoko.tsuno.free.fr/index.php (The link is only in French, soz)

Lets see... When I was very little, "The cat who wore a pot on her head," "Katie's Zoo," and "Anna and the Wild Animals" were three of my favorite books (do we sense a theme here?)
Later, The Wolfling, Rascal, Julie of the Wolves, Shiloh... White Fang and The Call of the Wild... Foxes Three (my mom eventually banned this one, no idea why she hated it so much but I checked it out from the library six or seven times)... the Jungle Book

And when I got older, Redwall.

I didn't watch many movies as a kid.  My very favorite was White Fang... I was irrationally terrified of Gaston from Beauty and the Beast (who is still freaking creepy as $h!t) but otherwise enjoyed Disney animated movies (not Mickey and Minnie.  Mickey's voice is annoying).
They constantly showed The Sandlot in school... we had a 'fun day' once where we were supposed to go outside and play games and stuff.  It stormed instead, and we watched "movies"... or rather, we watched "The Sandlot" in every class all day.  I saw the first forty-five minutes or so of that #@#$%$! movie seven times.  I didn't like it that much to begin with.

You never read any of the Beverly Cleary "Ralph S. Mouse" books?  They may be a little young for you now, but they're nice enough, just... by the time I ran across DDofAC, I was done with them.
DDofAC is relatively obscure.  I enjoy it; one of the "do you now see how much worse your life could be?  Shut up and soldier, soldier" type books.  I recommend it; the privileged New York kid gets changed into a mutt of a dog & spends the summer acting as guide dog to a nearly blind artist in the NYC art community.

Roger Hall in "You're Stepping On My Cloak And Dagger" - he died a few years ago; the book is about when he was in WWII, so no surprise there.  From (as in published/found by me) the same era, Albert from "And, to my Nephew Albert, I leave the Island what I won off Fatty Hagan in a Poker Game..."  Kioga, Mighty Mouse.

I remember really loving Space Above and Beyond. The plot was a WWII movie set in space. It was great. It had wonderful characters. They advertised it so badly in the beginning, no one watched it. I had hopes that when Sci/Fi picked it up they would continue the story line, but it didn't happen. It was fun watching all the actors get an episode on X-files in the next season.

Space Above and Beyond, the reputedly most expensive Sci-Fi show in it's time... vaguely remember that. Actually, looking at the new Galactica, I wonder if they weren't just ahead of their time?

Pity about Blood Ties, just when one got used to it they cancelled it.

No one mentioned Firefly. I loved this show and it only lasted 10 episodes before it was cancelled by FOX. Joss Wheadon, Nathan Fillion. Space cowboys. What's not to love? :)

Firefly was mentioned early, by Gerd, but he hadn't watched it.  Bill loves it.  I struggled a bit after I saw the first episode, it seemed to demand background knowledge that wasn't there for me.  After I saw the movie based on it, "Serenity", I could watch the episodes and felt more (oddly...) as though I understood what was going on, or was at least able to just enjoy without worrying about the "before" too much.

I rather liked "Kolchack:  The Night Stalker" partly because it was based on a couple of made for TV movies, one of which was based in Seattle's Underground, and partly for Darrin McGavin.

I have vague memories of "My Mother the Car", although it didn't go to SF channel, and I doubt it's on DVD.  *is afraid to look."

I know there's not a Firefly thread and I'm hesitant to start one because perhaps it's been discussed to death here.

Not sure if this belongs here but have you head of the fan made "sequel" to Serenity/Firefly titled Browncoats: Redemption (http://browncoatsmovie.com/?page_id=9)? It's out on DVD and BluRay but only available for purchase for a short time. Adam Baldwin makes a cameo.  *squee* I'm definitely checking it out.

When I was little my whole family watched the show Earth 2.  People colonize a new planet and have to learn to deal with the resident sentient species.  Supposedly you can find the episodes online free somewhere, but I can't find them.  It's out on DVD but I don't know if I want to spend the money on a show I only remember bits and pieces of.  On the other hand, it's the only show I actually remember watching as a whole family, for the entire season, until high school at least. So it can't have been bad.

Earth 2 was interesting in a high tech pioneering sort of way. Lots of back story to delve into. Hints of an overall industrial conspiracy. And lots of people with twisted complicated personal histories. Basic premise, the first people sent to colonize a planet mis their landing target. Not everyone survives. They scramble what they can to get to the initial proposed landing site to prepare for the ships that are following. They discover among other things that there are natives to the planet living there, that their ship might have been sabotaged, and that they are not the first humans there. There was even a little time travel.

I've taken advantage of my Netflix streaming to watch two series lately.  One of them was a re-watch, but the other was a watch-new.

SURFACE -- Great sci-fi show from 2005 about a new amphibious species and the havoc it was wreaking on the ecosystem.  Loved it when it came on back then and have thought about it often during the last 6 years.  Such a disappointment to me that NBC cancelled this series after just one season.  Boo...hiss!  Especially because things were just starting to get good!

SURVIVORS -- This was a BBC show from 2008, and it was a remake of an earlier (1975) version of the same show.  I loved this show!  If you don't know....  It takes place in England following an outbreak of flu that kills 99% of the world's population.  The series focuses on the survivors who are left, as they come together to carve out a new life.  It's kind of philosophical in a way:  can past sins be forgotten? if society had an opportunity to start completely over, how would it fare? There was a good blending of the light and dark, human and inhumane.  I tell you what, though, there's one character in the show -- the female government minister -- who catapulted to the top of my Most Hated Characters list.  Her vile hypocrisy had me seething.  LOVED this series!
